2. Are they asking for it?
I'd like to donate, because I am A-negative, which is always difficult to find and in demand. But (not that I shouldn't donate in general), I want to make sure it will actually be used for this crisis if I take the time out to go do it.

Last time I tried to donate (a number of years ago, I'll admit), I was turned down because I was under the minimum weight limit. I don't think I fall under that bar anymore! Middle age has crept in just enough to make me a candidate.

8. Oh, I see it way inside a page
To date, there have been no requests for blood products from the government of Haiti. However, some patients at an affected facility in Haiti have been moved to a Guantanamo Bay hospital, and the Armed Services Blood Program has asked both the Red Cross and Florida Blood Services for support for those patients. In addition, the American Red Cross will be sending a shipment of blood products to the United Nations Mission in Haiti.

However, when I clicked on their how to donate blood page to find out where to go, for my zip code the response was "no blood drives available." I live in the middle of a huge city. That's weird.

4. I don't think I am allowed.
Unless I lie. But why should I have to lie? I haven't donated blood since I was in high school.

5. Me either, which is a big disappointment (Hep C). I'd hate to pass this
along to anyone, and anyway I think they test for it.

You should find out for sure if you're eligible or not.
