CNN Poll; some 38,000 people NOT contributing to Haiti relief efforts
http://edition.cnn.com

Not sure how long that poll will be up, but at the moment 33% of respondents have indicated they are NOT contributing (nearly 39k respondents).

Okay, now being in pretty dire financial straits myself these days I can imagine that some of them just can't afford it, but are some people actually clicking "no" as a point of pride or something? Fucking Rush Limbaugh fans perhaps?

I don't understand that. Why would one want to reply in the negative to such a thing? I don't get it.

fwiw, I can't contribute much but I WILL contribute as much as I can today and I am just about flat broke...

5. I clicked on an article today - a local newspaper in some city
though I honestly don't remember where it was - they were discussing the earthquake and the unremitting horror that the people of Port au Prince are facing. Of the half dozen comments to the article, four of them basically said 'so what' - only in much uglier language.

Not one of those comments suggested that they were unable to donate; they all made it clear that they had no intention of donating.

Appalling.

6. Those are some sick people.
Anybody who refuses to help their fellow man in his most dire circumstances is a monster. They have the gall to ask "why should I help?" Real humans know better than to ask that question. Simply put, we help because that is what we do.

7. People right here are having an awful time trying to keep indoors and fed.
Maybe some of those people were not being malicious but just honest.

8. Perhaps some of them.
I dunno though, like Clinton said even a dollar or two would help...and almost anyone can do at least THAT much, and then still happily answer the poll with a "yes".

Like I said, it feels to me like a lot of respondents are making some kind of a statement (maybe it's just me).

10. Maybe you're right. I don't read that site and no longer read
the comments sections of newspapers because they seem to draw career freepers who try to outdo each other in how horrible they can be to their fellow human beings. They're sickening sociopaths and I try to avoid them whenever possible which, thankfully, is 99% of the time.

9. If it was their call they wouldn't send aid either
People expose their true selves on message boards and comment sections.

There's nothing you can do to change someone's heart. The lack of compassion

for other people is astounding. At least they're usually the minority.

11. I donated via text message
Text "Haiti" to 90999, and you donate $10 to the Red Cross. It appears on your next cell phone bill.
