1. I canot blame them
but this is to be expected...

Once they start seeing more and more aid coming in things will get a little better...

As to the mass immigration, not if we listen to a few of the locals and implement a Marshall plan with partners in LatAm...

2. I've been pondering the next few weeks in my head all night, and I'm getting nowhere.
Where are they going to go? There are millions. It's an island. What about Cuba?

3. If this is done right
and there are many ifs.

They will have a job back at home... rebuilding. Today a UN rep actually mentioned a Marshall Plan, and that is what the Clinton Foundation has been working on in a very small scale.

It is horrible, but there might be a bright side to this. They NEED to rebuild the city... if the money comes in, there will be jobs. And if this is done right, those buildings will be built RIGHT and in a green way, helping to heal some of the environmental mess.

Alas this is medium to long term. Right now some of these folks will find jobs helping rescue services from all over the world.

5. a real conundrum when so many Americans can't find work
I've never seen a situation with so few apparent solutions.

6. I actually do not see it as a conumdrum
that would stop illegal immigration, not just to the US mind you.

Now done right means... John Maynard Keynes on steroids...

And we should be doing that in the US to be brutally honest.

Oh and it COULD help to get employment in the US if we decided to do this through government aides. realize I don't want this done through private contractor here. We did that in Europe by the way.

4. My husband just came home and cried.
I say we fund a huge charity and hire American workers to rebuild the place.

7. Those poor people.
after experiencing the Northridge quake, I still have one memory that still freaks me out.

It's the sound of people panicing during an aftershock. The din of screams.

I can't even imagine what it much be like there.

8. Yeah, I remember that - I was one of them, lol.
Wouldn't you know, it so happened I went out there for my first trip to CA that weekend - I also remember the neighbors screaming during the aftershocks, was very scary, though since I wasn't from LA, I just sort of thought to myself during the quake, "oh, this must happen all the time, it's no big deal."
