In a moment of rare bipartisanship
the Prime Minister of Jamaica and the Leader of the Opposition will arrive in Port-au-Prince this morning with relevant personnel from Jamaica Defense Force and our Office of Disaster preparation and Management (ODPEM), Red Cross, etc. The aircraft will be loaded with crucial supplies for the Haitian people. Go CARICOM!! Finally there is something to make us proud while the government sells us out with another IMF hardship agreement.

Jamaicans never forget that after the Haitian revolution, once slaves landed in Haiti, they became free men and woman thanks to the new Haitian constitution after the revolution. We also have a large Haitian population here, many of whom started out as refugees.

4. I've never seen more generosity from our people
like I've seen in the last 36 hours. There are collection barrels all over the island - in supermarkets, banks and radio & TV stations, as well as bank accounts. Talk radio is all about helping our neighbours. I don't recognize us. :D

6. Mal, I am hoping that we will all be able to say things like that when this
terrible time is over.
Those people had more than enough to deal with...it seems like the city is almost completely destroyed.

7. I am hopeful this time around

because the entire planet has mobilized around this one.

It's wonderful seeing the Virginia rescuers pull someone out of the United Nations' building (on CNN). :applause:

2. The human race has only survived
because when disaster strikes, we HELP each other.

3. Pity we don't look after one another when
there are no disasters. I love this face of our common humanity.

5. Agreed.
United against the common enemy of disaster. Nice when we dig down deep to find our better selves.
