NBC News: Obama asking W to help Clinton spearhead Haiti relief.
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 07:19 AM by chimpymustgo
Interesting. Get the lazy bastard off his ass to do some good in the world. But my stomach turns at the platform this gives him to "rehabilitate" his image.

Though we'll never forget Katrina. Never.

This just reported on the Today Show.

Get near to humans in distress? I didn't know Obama could be so cruel.

George will consider it torture so I like the idea.

It's pathetic political pandering to call on him to "help". People in crisis don't need his kind of help, and it's an affront to them to even suggest he get involved.

8. He can take Brownie with him
Why does Bill Clinton spend so much time palling around with Bush SR.? And now Obama calls on W? Why? Who needs or wants the man that brought illegal war and death to millions? Not mention the guy who ate cake and vacationed while Americans sat on roofs and overpasses and died? Sickening beyond belief. I agree with the poster above that said this is Obama's effort to rehabilitate W' image.

The puzzle just keeps getting filled in.

106. Yup.
On the one hand we see the Obama Administration to be opposed to any investigations that might reveal Bush Administration malfeasance while on the other hand he makes a concerted effort to include W in an obvious PR opportunity to help heal his image.

This is beyond curious. It sounds for all the world like Obama and Bush are part of the same team, a team that does not include the regular American citizen or their best interests.

If he can convince just one of them to assist in the Hatian relief effort, then good. If that offends your tender sensibilities, tough. I'm sure the people who are trying to scrape the strawberry jam that used to be their loved ones out from under collapsed buildings, without benefit of food, water, medicine, or heavy equippment don't give a flying fuck about what you want.

For some ridiculous reason, there are Americans out there who still like W and he has the ability to reach those idiots and ask for help with VERY little effort on his part. Does it occur to him to do so? It doesn't seem like it if the current President has to call him out.

There's no way to spin this act as "a positive." :grr:

no, better to kiss up to repukes, war criminal repukes at that, than try to work with progressives.
Just think what Howard Dean could organize, and what an Obama/Dean coalition, the "centrists" and the real humanitarians/progressives, could accomplish.

No, better to use a massive tragedy the way bush would, for political brownie points.

the only thing bush ever "pushed" anyone to do was to kill people.
Notice how bush got people to rally around "helping" the people of New Orleans.

the EXAMPLE set by Obama + Dean would be stunning--it would show what DEMOCRATS are really about.

you don't see the clinton/bush thing as "political"?
oh, it appears all "neutral" and "nonpartisan," but the political calculus has been figured.
and it restores some semblance of humanity to bush, as though he really did care about anybody, and as though we should just forget about what he did to this country, what he did to the world, and how he is a massive war criminal and traitor who should be hung from a gallows.

Bush is good at exactly one thing: fundraising. I think Obama realizes this. If we give Dubya an Air Force Gulfstream and free reign to go out and raise money for the relief effort, he'll get a lot of it.

52. If he can pull more money for Haiti from the RW then GOOD
The people of Haiti need food and shelter and they don't give two shits which political party the aid comes from.

Riiight.

He'll bring his guitar along to entertain the victims. Maybe even share some cake with them.

56. I'm sure that Republicans were appalled when Bush Sr. and Clinton were
paired up to work on aid after the tsunami. The fact is, using former presidents in an aid effort like this really gives it some clout.

59. This thread is a monument of hate trumping compassion
The people of Haiti need help. For as horrible a person Bush may be, his presense will ensure the relief efforts are bipartisan. These poor people need as much help as we can give and Bush will be able to nudge some republicans to help.

It's shameful that so many of you are nothing but rage and no longer have any compassion left.

71. I think this is the first time I have agreed with you
They need medical, food and shelter just to live and it doesn't matter where that help comes from.

People need to put aside politics in times like this.

109. Bush doesn't help anyone unless he or someone he knows can make money off of it
How exactly does having Bush pretend to raise money for Haiti change that? Better to get someone who will ACTUALLY help. But no you're too busy finding someone to bash while ignoring history. Typical.

62. I expected W's good "Dem" pals would ask Obama to do this, same as they rehabbed Bush1's

image.

I will give Clinton his due - HE is great at mobilizing emergency responses, and that is really his greatest strength and probably comes more naturally to him to DO that type of good. It's his willingness to cooperate with Poppy Bush and his pals that ruined any other good Clinton could have achieved as president.

But....he's good at humanitarian efforts that require emergency response. Great at it. It's Clinton at his best as a person and as a leader.

Too bad W has to be given a role to rehab his 'image' to the world. No one really believes the dictatortot cares about the Haitian people or their misery.

70. Can't we just put petty politics aside for this one?
Like Hillary said, it's a disaster of biblical proportions. There's a need for all hands on deck for this one. Jr. still has plenty of clout within Republican circles and can help Bill in raising funds, which is what they need the most right now. They need the money to buy essential supplies.

Geez.......

81. People need to put politics aside here
They need food, shelter and medical care and frankly, it doesn't matter where it comes from.

Clearly, many people on this thread have gone over the edge. Being a democrat is about compassion and caring for those in need. It's not a sporting event.

83. I don't get it, it's just plain crazy.
It's just like all the bitching done by both the right and the left when W asked his dad and Bill to team up to aid the tsunami victims. If there's a global tragedy, I would team up with Satan himself if he could provide help.

There's a real world out there and real need, it's not all about donkeys and elephants fighting over ideology and power.

87. This isn't about Obama or Progressives or Democrats or Republicanss
This is about 3 million people wandering about in rubble that need to eat. Bodies need to be buried before they cause illness, people need medical help for injuries.

Try putting politics aside for a few minutes and realize those are people and they need help from the whole world right now.

These are peoples lives and not some fucking sporting event.

97. Exactly!!!
Sometimes I think that we forget that we are Americans first. BTW, there are plenty of conservative churches and other entities that have mobilized to send aid too. For example, FOX sent a medical team headed by their medical correspondent (some OB/GYN).

98. That's really good news. And who knows? Maybe some hearts will
be softened and even some minds changed through working together to actually help people. Let's face it, we're all dreamers here. And we must recognize when some of those dreams become reality, even if for a short time.

They'll go to Haiti and get Shit-for-Brains to go into a damaged building for a photo-op
(he always loved photo-ops taken in the aftermath of natural disasters).

And then, tragically, the building collapses on Shit-for-Brains. Instant justice.
