GA deputy who sought sex with child, mom convicted
GA deputy who sought sex with child, mom convicted

Associated Press - January 14, 2010 4:14 AM ET

ATLANTA (AP) - A former Bibb County Sheriff's deputy has been convicted of attempting to entice a minor for sex.

Gregory Todd Bowden was found guilty Wednesday and faces a minimum of 10 years when he is sentenced March 16.

Prosecutors say the 43-year-old Bowden drove 110 miles from Byron aiming to have a threesome with a mother and her 7-year-old daughter. They said the 8-year veteran of the department had arranged the meeting online but the woman he had befriended was really an undercover FBI agent.

Bowden was arrested when he arrived in Sandy Springs on Feb. 11, 2009.

Prosecutors said the former deputy frequented online chat rooms in which he engaged in role-playing about incest and child sex acts.

1. Guh.
My first reaction. It was followed by '...roosssssssss'.

Glad it was an FBI agent though. I worry about the folks that set these sort of things up that *don't* get caught. I need some mental bleach now. :(

2. I'm glad they caught the perv but why is the FBI involved?
How come the understaffed, underfunded, overworked FBI has agents available to participate in pedophile stings? It seems to me what this asshole did was a violation of state/local laws, not federal.

Why aren't they spending all their time catching people with funny names who want to blow us all up?

I can't believe the local cops had nobody available that could do this.

5. Not sure...
...of your issue here.

You seem to be pissed that someone that was trying to molest young girls was arrested by a federal agency and not by local police. Many times this DOES occur with the local police involved or running the whole sting.

I can't believe that you take umbrage with this.

10. My "ISSUE?" I couldn't have been more clear. If local police weren't so
busy busting pot smokers, which accounts for more man hours than people would ever guess, then there would be more people to investigate and arrest the scumbags going after little boys and girls. When cities are cutting back on police, don't you think there should be some semblance of priority? Likewise, that could free up FBI manpower to fight terrorism. And maybe even connect those oh so connectible dots.

12. I'm not pissed that a pedophile was arrested
I'm just curious why the FBI, which doesn't seem to be able to do a very good job catching terrorists, is wasting its meager resources chasing perverts.

IMHO a better use of the FBI's time would be dealing with crimes that are within its jurisdiction. This creep didn't cross any state lines to contact this girl so I doubt if he committed any federal crime.

11. It's cheaper to pay cops to troll chat rooms than buy fuel for their cruisers. n/t

3. Creating crimes to bust people. Well, here's something to chew on.

Police: n. Armed force for protection and participation.

When I lived in Seattle, the cops at the airport there would put wallets at payphones, then bust people who picked them up.
In Bellevue (across Lake Washington from Seattle), police there would put TVs on street corners, then bust people who took them.

Thank goodness we at least live in a country where a man can grow to be six feet tall and isn't looked down upon (by very many people, anyhow). That's something we can all be proud of as free, freedom loving American patriots.

6. Yup...
..this is EXACTLY the same as the crappy stings that you mentioned.

:eyes:

Also, unless you provide links or citations to the above mentioned police tactics - call me skeptical.

7. It's a somewhat free country. Be as skeptical or as bad ...

as you wanna be. If you're struck by the thought that perhaps your skepticism is unfounded...in light of everything I said and
in light of ever how much you already know about how the world works, then you don't have to say you love me, just remember this:
I have no reason to doubt YOU.
