Obama asking W to help in Haiti might not be such a bad move at all
Notice the contrast--Clinton jumped right in there, didn't need to be asked, had a charitable organization in
place already. Bush volunteered nothing. Hell, he and Cheney had nothing to offer. Now, instead of watching it
silently from their country clubs, now he and Cheney are put in the national spotlight by Obama, reminding the
American public that these two-and by extension, their party--are totally useless. The last thing the Republicans
want America reminded of in an election year is how they botched Katrina.

Obama, very subtly, has just done exactly that, and in such a way that they can never accuse him of it.

Since there's no justice...

4. Only, don't let him do or say anything about how to restructure
Haitian society or government. The neocons still practice "the Shock Doctrine" and this would be a great opportunity for them to extol their vision of a new government for Haiti, a truly horrible outcome from a already horrible disaster.

5. "Restructure" is a three-syllable word
Don't bet on Bush using it in context any time soon.

9. I'm not worried about Bush himself.
More worried about the people who pull the string on the puppet.

If all he does is a PSA asking for money (ala poppy bush for the great tsunami), that's fine... I don't really want to hear his voice again on my TeeVee, but whatever.

7. As for myself, I don't see "subtle and devious" motives in all of Obama's "conciliarity" moves.
I believe that he's sincere in most if not all instances, and I don't necessarily regard thatt as a weakness. The main thing is that he'lll get things done, and with a minimum of partisan rancor. Perhaps that's the ultimate "deviousness", but is that such a bad thing?

24. Maybe not in all his conciliatory moves, but I sense more than a little in this one
Note the deafening silence of Cheney, Bush, and Republicans in general since this happened.

Obama can only win here, and has nothing to lose. The longer the Republicans debate what's in
for them, the more it looks like all they care about is what's in it for them.

Limbaugh is worth a half billion dollars. All he has contributed so far is verbal vitriol.
Did Limbaugh ask his listeners to contribute for help? I got the email from Clinton and the
CGI within hours.

Bill Clinton is worth nothing like $500 million, and he started organizing help the second he
heard about the disaster. The USA is in deep debt and is organizing what already has to have cost
the country hundreds of millions of dollars in logisitical aid, and Obama didn't hesitate any longer
than Clinton did. The longer the Republicans take to figure out how they want to respond to this, the
worse they look. Theirs is not an instant humanitarian instinct, but rather a calculated one based on
their own potential gain, just like Katrina, and why, after all, should Hatian life be worth more than
American life, right?

I'm sure that when the earthquake struck, political advantage was the farthest thing from Obama's
mind, but the guy is quick, and I'm sure it didn't take him very long to notice that the right
wing was being rather conspicuous in their absence.

8. Bush was an awful president but he has had decent behavior since leaving office
Cheney is the obnoxious one.

I think Obama asking w to help is really classy. It was an invitation to participate where Bush might not have felt as welcome.

Nice.

17. Thank you! Somebody gets it.
I think that it's a shame that Idiot Boy had to be asked to help out. I only wish that President Obama's next move will be to come out and say, "I invite Mr. Cheney and his colleagues at Halliburton and their affiliates to give something back in return for all of the billions of dollars in no-bid government contracts they were awarded over the past several years." It won't happen, but perhaps he can get someone in Congress to make that request?

22. You are perfectly right, of course. But that begs an uncomfortable question:
ARE there any people out there that Bush can reach (that Clinton cannot) who could be bothered to donate anything?

For my part, I would hope so, but fear otherwise.

26. Dein Wort in Gottes Ohr, as the Germans say
And if you are right, then it would be a nice gesture if Bush would get out there and very publicly ask them to contribute.
In case he has already done so, he must have done it with the utmost of discretion, because I haven't yet heard a word about it.

His schedule doesn't appear to be filled with vital appointments these days...........

Besides, just tell him he's going to Haiti. They both begin with "Ha..." so it's doubtful he'd know the difference.
