I do not need to stick my head up a bull's ass to know that I'm going to see bullshit. It is also ridiculous to then complain about the smell up there.

Take your head out of the bull's ass that is the Reich Wing Propaganda Machine.

Don't allow these evil idiots to invade your brain.

-Fuck 'em

2. I've listened to Rush for a few minutes at lunch since about 1992.
It's a habit, and overall it's beneficial to know what the millions of trained seals are going to start parroting the next day.

Know your enemy.

4. "It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself"
Sun Tzu wrote
"It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."

I know what they are going to say without listening they are going to spew evil, stupid shit. How does "knowing your enemy" help you? Sun Tzu said to "know your enemy and know yourself", but are you planning a battle? It would be good then to know his habits, routes of travel, weaknesses, etc.

Knowing that rush is spewing venom doesnt help anyhing or anybody.

3. They always say it's "to keep an eye on what the enemy is saying."
But I think it's really a lack of self control.

6. I will listen to rush occassionally - and faux - and will pop over to FR every once in a while
I want to hear the latest RW talking points.

Not sure why you should have any concern about the listening habits of others . . . unless they listen then complain about the content.

And it helps unite DU a little. Lately there is a divide, but it did go away when Cheney said a heinous thing.

9. Rush isn't the opposition, he's nothing more than a distraction.
That's like saying John Madden is the opposition of your football team because he wants the other team to win.

13. You give him way too much credit!! Half of Rush's listeners are people
who hate him and get riled up and blistering mad listening to him everday.

Rush isn't even trying to be influential. He's trying to make money and he makes more and more and more and more the more he's talked about on DU and the more people listen to him.

You can tell this by the way he doesn't really come up with logical solutions to problems, he comes up with solutions that make DU people mad because that's his job and all the suckers on here fall for it hook-line-sinker.

23. I dont think so.. He is a dangerous manipulative guy. Of course he is trying to make money...
and that is his ultimate goal but in so doing he has millions mesmerized, hanging on his every word. No doubt he gets some liberals mad but his real mission is to get conservatives mad by playing on their hot buttons so they keep coming back and listening and buying his Rushbo paraphernalia.

10. I appreciate that other folks do it
And will share a little bit of what is transpiring in the nether reaches of the wingnutosphere. I know that I couldn't possibly delve into that murky swamp. And getting a preview of what is almost surely going to come bubbling up from there to enter the national conversation helps to eliminate the "oh-my-god-did-you-really-say-that" moment of jaw dropping, and allows me to engage their stupidity a little quicker.

I don't read every thread about the Nitwit Brigade, but often just the thread title is enough to inform me sufficiently of what I'm going to confront in the next few days. For example, it's a hot topic right now down there that the Haitian people aren't deserving of assistance, or their lives don't matter. It hasn't quite crept into more reasoned discourse, but I'll bet a nickel it will by the weekend. It's good to be forewarned.

Just kidding.
Yeah, it's a waste of time. Only, some of us are not really quick with comebacks, so getting a line on what they are saying might be helpful in preparing a retort.
But, I never listen to the drugster. He's ignorant and hateful, and listening to him ruins my day.

14. I remember when Fox came out in the 90's with their "brand new" TV
station in my area. Was great the first 6 months, old re-runs of Rocky and Bulwinkle late at night when the other 3 stations were off the air or uncut R rated movies. Then soon after Clinton took office I turned onto the Fox station to watch Bulwinkle only to find this fat guy ranting and raving about the evil liberal Clinton and how great Reagan was, like the years of Reagan union attacks never happened or Reagan didn't spend the country into debt trying to out do the USSR on military build ups, my first thought was ignore the fat asshole and he would go away as he was a complete idiot, lier or worse.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think American's would put up with this nut. Boy was I wrong, 20 years later he is still on the air, saying the same exact things he said 20 years before, he just inserted new names in his tired old rants, the worst thing was he has a following of people that actually think he is the only one speaking truth about the government. Whats even funnier is he knows he is spreading BS and laughing all the way to the bank to deposit the cash the nit wits that believe him send his way.

Then folks wonder why I have no faith in the stupidity of the American people.

15. Because...
it's a diversion and steers the debate further to the right, instead of focusing on progressive policy we instead waste our time on nonsense that is spewed by these buffoons.

If you hit Obama from the right it makes him stronger, problem is this administration is so much to the right that you have to go loony to be able to hit it on that side. The left and right in American politics does not exist, it's all right wing so all that is left is to debate wedge issues that doesn't endanger the power of the ruling class.

I can't look at it, not even CNN. I'm glad folks post the lunacy here so I don't have to look. But I want to be aware of the level of insanity that is not just acceptable, but very popular.

I already KNOW Rush will have some idiotic, racist spew about Haiti. I don't need to see a quote or watch a clip.

Why subject myself to it when I know it'll do nothing but induce anger?

20. I think more sensible advice would be just not to get upset about it.

It's never going to change and there's not a great deal anyone can do about it except ameliorate where possible. Although if you also believe that there's little useful information to be gleaned from them, I think you're also right.

22. It's like a car wreck
You want to look away but you can't. I used to read FR and listen to television evangelists - I guess it was some weird dark fascination with the gross. In high school my friends and I used to enjoy watching those traffic school scare videos, "Red Pavement" and the like. We liked seeing all the gross dismemberment. I think it's the exact same thing with keeping track of the right wing nut jobs.

I have since grown out of it. Can't tolerate FR, can't watch the 700 club.

Of course I personally despise talk radio - have since the Oklahoma City bombing. It contributes nothing to society except anger and hatred directed at the wrong people. On the flip side I read stuff about those scumfucks here because it helps put things in perspective of what we're up against.
