Obama tells banks: `We want our money back'
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100114/ap_on_bi_ge/us_obama_bank_fees

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Thursday he wants to tax banks to recoup the public bailout of foundering firms at the height of the financial crisis. "We want our money back," he said.

In a brief appearance with advisers at the White House, Obama branded the latest round of bank bonuses as "obscene." But he said his goal was to prevent such excesses in the future, not to punish banks for past behavior.

14. “Throw the banksters in jail and take all of our money back:” and then what,?
Blow the lid off of our ponzi scheme banking system?

Could you imagine the panic that would result? What would the working class do without the distinct honor of being subdued debt slaves to one of the biggest scams in the known universe? Nope, Obama’s doing just fine; and restoring the illusion of legitimacy too legal plunder doesn’t require taking on the drastic steps of throwing some filthy rich criminal parasite in jail; besides - the masses are already accustom to being fleeced royally… So a little posturing here and a hand slap there will go a long way, and before you know it everything will seem normal again. And as long as the masses can block out from their minds; any notions of real justice, the terrible truths about our monolithic debt slave banking system and the criminals that profit from it; all hope for change will acquiesce to the whims of the dark underworld, and we can just pass it on to the unborn debt slaves of tomorrow who will in all likelihood be in a worse position to deal with it…

2. I just heard the clip on Ed Schultz.
Certainly liked what I heard.... wonder if he will keep going in that direction.

If he does... he will regain some of the trust he has lost.

Although, he is better with words than with action, so it remains to be seen.

For now, tho, that was a very good start to change direction.

He needs to stand up to the Wall Street apologists on his economic team and the corporate prostitutes in the Senate and get this done. While he's at it he can let his buddy, Melissa Bean in the House, know any more loopholes to reform are unacceptable.

Good job, Mr. President

8. Gave them enough rope to hang themselves with?
Hopefully. Remains to be seen if he can get the legislature to come along with this. We know how even Democrats respond to the word "tax"

9. If you consider
the way banks have been ripping the money from us with all the convoluted fees this does not seem unfair to me. Maybe Obama should ask the banks what would you do if someone tried to skip out on money owed? No one said this was a free handout.

10. He "wants" to tax banks? He "wants" our money back? Talk is cheap.
DO something. Don't just say you "want" it!

It's called a press conference. Maybe you expect him to wear spandex and fly, while beating up the evil banksters?
