There was international aide during Katrina
I know most Americans don't know this, and this was and still is on purpose. Perhaps since I had a very direct hand in the early part of the week, before State FINALLY surrendered, and ahem, officially said yes, we accept it for me this is second nature. It was kind of hard not to accept it, when it is already pouring in.

Any how here is the list from wikipedia, and it is a good reminder for people. We were not alone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina

Why am I saying this? Not to remove blame from the Bush Administration. They should be blamed to the nth degree, and deservedly so. But people need to know. We were NOT alone. And those of us who were involved in helping to get them in during the early days did so using the knowledge out of the school of hard knocks. Trust me, nationalist pride is not just an American disease, and it is during a disaster in ways that kills people.

8. honestly you should not worry about trivial stuff like that
Unrecs happen.

If the article has merits that'll be wiped out in a few minutes or so.

2. And I know I got calls from Canada asking WHY their aid was being turned away
I notice there is some stuff listed, but quite frankly, the Bush admin was probably SHAMED into allowing foreign aid eventually. I do know that just after the fact, at least 2 Canadian planes filled with supplies were refused permission to fly over US airspace.

4. Shamed is the right word
but Canadian teams were on the ground within 24 hours. Trust me, I had a direct hand on that one... sort off.

The shaming came from multiple places, and not just abroad.

It was a very surreal week.

At one point I turned to my husband and said... 24 hours until State finally buckles.

He went you kid me right? He didn't believe they would.

And I went, no seen this movie before.

I was off by two hours.

5. You want to clean up the mess
from all those heads exploding?

Add a link to the Mexican Aide... I mean Mexican troops, IN UNIFORM, flying the Mexican Flag at Texas will surely do it.

7. Thank you for reminding us of this!
I am always amazed on how the news seem to describe ONLY the efforts the US makes at helping other countries... which allows many misinformed people in America to believe that WE are the only generous "Christian" nation!

It is an issue that I have been arguing about for many years, but no one seems to realize that there is international helps coming from many countries and going to ANY country in need after a disaster (even a large, powerful, wealthy country like ours!)

I believe the problem may stem (at least I hope so, I wouldn't like to think that it's just arrogance!) from the fact that, as a wealthy country of over 300 million people, we have more resources than most other countries (let's say, Belgium with it's 10 million people)... So if we look ONLY at the "amount" of money we give as a country. . .yes, we usually come far above any other nation. . .but if we look at the "amount of money PER CAPITA," it is a totally different story!

9. True dat, but the US Media, (MSNBC this morning)
actually highlighted the aide pouring in from the four corners.

Perhaps Katrina (and a few nastigrams sent last night) have had an effect.

I mean I reminded them that I could go to OTHER media and find out what OTHER countries were doing. And bad me, I sent links from Canadian, Mexican, and UK press...

"Money donations although where very high, the province of Alberta alone threw in 5 million dollars."

13. Considering the providence of Alberta has population of
less than two million, it's very telling of the Canadian generosity during Katrina.
