Some of our doctors are headed to Haiti...

One of the doctors at our area medical center just returned from working in Haiti last week. He is now coordinating an effort to get teams of physicians down to Haiti for relief efforts, since he has contacts there.

They have a few hundred water purifying units, and some medications that are in an in-tact building. They will be going down there with portable solar panels and medical supplies. He said there's a huge need for tetanus immunizations, but the vaccines need to be refrigerated, and there's no power.

They will be taking only what they can carry, and they will walk and sleep outside while they're there.

I just wanted to share this - I'm impressed. :)

I've been to Haiti on Smile Train missions, and let me tell you .... Haiti is in bad shape even in good times.

In Haiti, the Haitians have a saying about America's standoff with Haiti's good neighbor (that had one of the 1st medical brigades up and running post-earthquake), Cuba - it goes .... "Castro? We wish we had a thousand Castros!"

A couple of hours ago the airport was closed...to many planes on the ground , difficult to unload them..many planes were circling in the sky (they turned these away)...fuel is a problem they have very little...Everyone wants to help but there needs to be cordination.
