I Just Talked to CBN about Robertson Statement

I was so outraged I decided to invite one of them on my radio show to face a Survivor of Katrina. They returned my call and we had a fairly long and interesting discussion. They asked me to listen to the whole show from yesterday and the one from today to try and "put in context" what he said. Since I am a Katrina Survivor, I asked about that statement as well and gave them the real story, or as much as she would hear of it, about Katrina. She told me that they are doing a lot to try and help the people there with "Operation Blessing" and claimed they are doing much still in Katrina. Something I have yet to uncover in my Katrina work to date, but she claimed it.

It was interesting how Pat has posted a statement about his Haiti remark on his site trying to explain it, and how the person I talked to tried very hard to convince me he has been very supportive of Haiti and done much work there in the last year.

I have sent an email to request an interview for my show to the proper person so we will see if they take advantage of this opportunity, but I have to say the lady I talked to wanted to overtalk me and I let her know I would not let it happen. I told her, truthfully, that I was (and still am I guess since I have no knowledge it has terminated) a licensed Southern Baptist Preacher so I found her continued talking over me to be very unchristian since I was extremely knowledgeable of what I was talking about. She finally settled down and we had a discussion.

Pat's not doing any interviews about this matter. However I urge you to
visit the website for his Operation Blessing International (www.ob.org)
where you can find detailed information on how the organization helped
countless Katrina survivors in addition to updates on the Haiti relief and
recovery efforts.

In case you were not aware, OB was on the ground in New Orleans prior to
Katrina and was among the last charities to leave....over two years later.
They gave out $4.8 million in cash grants to local groups, which directly
helped 1.5 million people. They served over 1 million free meals to victims
and relief workers, they provided free medical and dental care to over
36,000 people and gave out over 80,000 free prescriptions. They gutted and
repaired thousands of homes and trucked in 12 million pounds of relief
supplies. Their 8,000 plus volunteers logged over 284,000 hours working to
help others. These are only a few things they achieved there.

Please take these efforts into account when making your decision. There are
those who attack Dr. Robertson for what he says, but when you look at what
the man does to help the sick, the poor, and victims of horrible disasters,
I think you'll get a pretty clear picture of who he really is.

10. Operation Blessing has already left?

Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief is still running work crews in conjunction with other agencies every week. We've sent three congregants down to Louisiana and Mississippi, and had one scheduled to go to Haiti next month. Operation Blessing has already pulled out of New Orleans? Seems a bit premature to have left, with so much destruction still to be cleaned up and so many houses still to be rebuilt.

Anywho, they gave out $4.8 million in cash grants that helped 1.5 million people? About $3.30 a person. Generous. How much did Robertson and his various ministries take in during those two years of alleged cash assistance? And which "local groups" received those grants?

If "Dr." Robertson wants to be praised for his actions and not attacked for his words, maybe he'd be better served to talk about things he knows about rather than speculating on how God's punishing a group of people 200 years after their ancestors committed some supposed sin. How does punishing present-day Haiti represent justice of any kind for an alleged deal with Satan from the late 18th Century?

too bad, because he would actually have a chance to have an open and
important talk with someone who not only went through Katrina, but has
worked hard to help the people as well as providing them a voice to
the nation. The refusal certainly cast doubts about Mr. Robertson even
more in my mind. I feel it is an opportunity missed by a man who is as
fake as it gets and certainly it only adds to my impression.

11. About Robertson's Katrina work and OB

Here's a thread from 2005 by DU'er G-j which illustrates what a fraud he perpetrates with his so-called "charity". It's really nothing more than a cash-cow and conduit for funneling money to his compatriots. Any actual charity work they do is highly directed at white evangelicals and serves as PR.

Operation Blessing, also financed entirely through charitable donations from Robertson's cult following, has proved to be a more shaky financial venture for Robertson. First, he used the airplane and resources brought in by Operation Blessing to fly to Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo) to purchase diamond mines for Robertson’s company African Development Corporation, to harvest so-called blood diamonds produced by near slave labor.

Interestingly, Robertson’s diamond venture shows that he really doesn’t have a problem with dictators per se – as long as he can make some money from them. To win diamond mining rights, Robertson developed a close and friendly relationship with dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, most notorious for his collaboration with the CIA in the assassination of Congolese national liberation movement leader Patrice Lumumba in 1961.

According to a 1996 interview with a former pilot for Operation Blessing, of 40 flights to Zaire in the mid-1990s, only one or two were really related to the humanitarian work that Operation Blessing claimed to its donors would be its main work. The rest, the pilot admitted, were related to developing the blood diamond business.
