Seminary president warns of hit film's worldview

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - A seminary president says Christian parents whose children have seen Avatar should talk to them about the movie's philosophical bent.

Rev. Alex McFarland of Southern Evangelical Seminary says Avatar presents a pantheistic world view, in which God is everything and everything is part of God.

He says the film also presents a negative view of capitalism, the military and, implicitly, of America.

McFarland says Christian parents whose children have seen Avatar should ask what they thought of the movie, and then explain their own beliefs.

While children can't be shielded from everything, McFarland says they should be taught to discern the messages in the films they see.

10. The story-line of Avatar is not "Capitalism"

Capitalism IS the mutual exchange of goods resulting in maximum net global benefit/utility.
Capitalism IS NOT forcefully taking resources when no market solution exists.
In a truly capitalistic scenario, no transaction would take place without a tenable market solution.
The movie more accurately portrayed Fascism.

However, of course the film paints a bad picture of America and American politics.
That's what we do... invade nations because we want their rescources.
The realism and personal association with such a plot is one facet film that makes the film so riveting.

I saw the movie and thought it was excellent. Easily the best 3-D movie I've ever seen.
Cameron creates yet another instant classic.

The message the fundies really want to shield their kids from is the critique of corporate greed, and the domination and rape of other cultures.
