That last photo, when he sees his mother... (all the photos actually) powerful.

that's gonna crack his face.

He's going to see so much pain and devastation, but for one shining moment, his work pays off. Must be an incredible feeling.

30. I was watching the news this morning, and they showed the picture

of the rescuer handing the little boy to his mother. I believe it was on the cover of the New York Times.

near a park where refugees are? An older boy holding tightly to three younger kids in descending size to a little bitty kid. They haunt me. I want to go and get them and bring them home.

...I want to hug, cuddle and kiss him, but I have so much sadness in my heart for thosen many other children who may not be lucky enough to have parents remaining to greet and hold them. And what of those many mothers and fathers who will not find surviving children?

Then again, this one wonderful happy moment with the light in this little boy's eyes as he sees his mother.... yes, yes indeed.

...so happy for this child and his mother, but it doesn't offset the terrible grief and anger over all the death. This AM I read about a nine-year old girl who had been alive and screaming for help but was dead by the time they got her out...my g'dtr is 8 - it just tears at me. Mixed with rage over the part the US has played in keeping the Haitians destitute and literally starving...even without the earthquake...and all the thousands who might not have died had they had a decent place to live in the first place...the schools that might not have collapsed if they had been built properly and not under the oppressions of disaster capitalism...

Little Redjeson Hausteen Claude is clinging to the unknown rescuer the way a 2 year old does his mother or father when he is afraid and hurt. Only at that moment, this stranger is every security he has in the world. Then the baby sees his mama...:cry: There is relief in his tiny face. The very sight of her mollifies his terror. I am so so pleased that he saw his mama.

I just feel so overwhelmed with grief for the Haitian people.

the USA and France have done what to help Haiti in the long term? Strangely our current govt. suddenly thinks forging the debts is a good idea, I think they are doing it due to upcoming elections in France, but it would be great if the debt is forgiven

For what it is worth the French government is pushing for doing just that: remove the debt from Haiti (although I am sure the IMF will figure a way to get then back in debt asap).

The fact that you refer to it as "your cake" says it all... Good grief. Yes, France is the colonial power which created Haiti, but lest forget that we have been the key player in this hemisphere for the past 2 centuries, esp. regarding the manifest destiny policies which led our country to behave as if we literally owned this hemisphere. A significant amount of our policies are directly responsible for Haiti having to suffer the status of being the poorest country in "our" hemisphere.

There must be something in the water which gives Americans the gall to have everything both ways no matter what...


I am delighted to see that this kid is safe and sound, we all do better when we all do better. It is time for people to evolve and realize how we are pretty much the same, and we should cut it out with all these territorial pissing contests. I hope we at least mature enough to figure out we all have to come together... Let's keep the momentum, and let's make sure we don't do what we always do: forget about the victims once they have lost their "cuteness" factor.

probably a mixture of blood, scraps, sweat, dust, etc.

What terrifies me is the look in his eyes. This poor kid has experienced more pain and stress in those 2 days, that most of us do in a life time. Luckily the brain of small children can trigger some tabula rasa mechanisms to remove some of these memories.
