Brown takes first polling lead

Scott Brown is showing his first lead in a poll on the Massachusetts special election.

Suffolk University has the GOP state senator leading Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley 50-46.

“Although the results show a race within the statistical margin of error, Scott Brown has surged dramatically,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk Political Research Center. “He is attracting independent support by a wide margin and even winning some Democrats who won’t vote the party line this time.”

Absolutely stunning. Though I'm pretty sure the source was on the right... and can't guess how he got the information if it's accurate.

My presumption was that the PPP poll was "cooked" to put the fear of (insert deity here) into MA democrats to show up to vote. I didn't think things had gotten THIS bad.

If he wins, it's not just the obviousl disaster, it means that HCR can only pass if the House accepts the Senate version with no changes... and that alone is a big loss.

I think that the claim comes from Byron York, so take it with a great big pinch of salt.

His source is "one well-connected democrat". But maybe that democrat is playing the "lower expectations" game as well.

I just don't know. That was my assumption a week or so ago... that a ten point win (my assumption at the time) would LOOK like a big loss in a state, so we should lower the expectations so that it couldn't be spun as republican momentum.

Now I'm not so sure.

This will be a disaster if this seat goes to the Republicans.

He was for it, and then when it hurt him he went against it. Martha was against it, she won.

Now Martha's arm has been twisted and she is now for it, and she lost all excitement for her campaign.
