An Appeal to the People of Massachusetts.....

This is to all liberals, progressives, and Democrats living in Massachusetts:

If Massachusetts elects a Republican to replace Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, effectively killing his lifelong dream of reforming health care, it will be the DEATH KNELL for all progressive goals. The stunning upset in the bluest state in the country will energize Republicans and disillusion Democrats like you wouldn't believe and the Democrats will be exterminated in the November elections, handing the reigns of power to Limbaugh-Palin-Beck-Hannity-Bachmann club of right-wing fanatics.

Some progressives are saying that the health care bill shouldn't be passed becuase it's been too watered-down. Understood, the bill is far from perfect, BUT.....it lays the framework for true reform and more meat can be added to it later. Social Security & Medicare were far from perfect when they were first signed into law, but over time Congresses worked on and improved both programs. So, with health reform, let's at least get our foot in the door now. THIS OPPORTUNITY WILL NOT COME AGAIN FOR DECADES.

Please, GET OUT & VOTE FOR MARTHA COAKLEY ON TUESDAY. If she loses, everything we have fought so hard for the past 30 years will be lost with it. Please, please don't let that happen.

The idea of replacing the Liberal Lion with a pub is unthinkable and I do not think for a minute
that we in Massachusetts will do it.

I believe the publicity given to recent polls showing the race as tight will energize the
hard core Dems to get out the vote.

10. I am still sceptical that it is as close as some claim

I plan on taking nothing for granted but unscientifically - most people I have talked to have no strong feelings for or against a candidate. They will be voting the party line Dems for Coakley Repubs for Brown. There are a lot more of us here than there are of them.

Surpisingly, a lot of people I have spoken to don't know there is an election or have only recently learned about it. I am willing to bet that a lot of folks who get called by pollsters are making up there mind when the pollster asks. How do you predict who is a likely voter. This is a weird situation. After the last couple of elections cycles I lost trust in polls. I am even less likely to trust them in this circumstance. The real likely voters are the folks with the strongest political views. In Mass that means Dems mostly.

Like I say, I won't let that give me a, potentially, false sense of security. I will do the phone bank.

13. Never, EVER Take Anything for Granted

The fact is, everyone (perhaps even conservatives) thought this would be a cakewalk for Coakley. She ran a lackluster campaign figuring her opponent was nothing but a sacrificial lamb running solely to gain name recognition. The idleness of her campaign has allowed Scott Brown to catch up with her. Every effort must be made to get every liberal/progressive voter in Massachusetts to the polls on Tuesday. Hit the heavily-populated liberal areas (i.e.--Boston) REALLY HARD.

This is war: progressivism vs. conservatism, Kennedyism vs. Reaganism, Obamaism vs. Hannityism. Don't hold ANYTHING back. Coakley MUST win on Tuesday.

I am a longtime MA resident. I intend to vote for Coakley. All my relatives are voting for Coakley. But unfortunately there are many rural areas in this state that sometimes go Republican. Another thing many people outside this state don't understand is that conservative radio has a stranglehold on the airwaves here. Hard to believe but it's true that even in the bluest state in the nation the right wing propaganda machine has a big time presence. I hope my fellow Bay staters show up and support Coakley. Brown would be an embarrassment to the Commonwealth.

Don't blame MA Dem/progressive voters IF Brown pulls this off, there's a LOT of Independents in this state and those are the ones we need to reach (Brown's been doing a much better job of that). Like someone else said, just because MA is largely Democratic doesn't mean the media is - it's actually largely conservative/rightwing leaning - Boston newspapers endorse Brown, police unions endorse him, http://www.969bostontalks.com is what passes for an FM talk station around here and most hosts are conservative shills.

Hopefully we can put the boot to the neck of this little 'movement' come Tuesday, I hope the Dem base is fired up and taking part in this vote. If so, we should be OK.

BUT - Martha's campaign dropped the ball on this election BIG TIME. Lazy, uninspired, and smugly arrogant about their 'inevitable' election win. We'd all better hope we can pull this off.
