Roger Ebert to Rush Limbaugh: 'You Should Be Horse-Whipped'

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100114/OPINION/100119985

A Letter to Rush Limbaugh
/ / / January 14, 2010

To: Rush Limbaugh
From: Roger Ebert

You should be horse-whipped for the insult you have paid to the highest office of our nation.

Having followed President Obama's suggestion and donated money to the Red Cross for relief in Haiti, I was offended to hear you suggest the President might be a thief capable of stealing money intended for the earthquake victims.

Here is a transcript from your program on Thursday:

Justin of Raleigh, North Carolina: "Why does Obama say if you want to donate some money, you could go to whitehouse.gov to direct you how to do so? If I wanted to donate to the Red Cross, why do I have to go to the White House page to donate?"

Limbaugh: "Exactly. Would you trust the money's gonna go to Haiti?"

Justin: "No."

Rush: "But would you trust that your name's gonna end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?"

Justin: "Absolutely!"

Limbaugh: "Absolutely!"

That's what was said.

Unlike you and Justin of Raleigh, I went to Obama's web site, and discovered the link there leads directly to the Red Cross. I can think of a reason why anyone might want to go via the White House. That way they can be absolutely sure they're clicking on the Red Cross and not a fake site set up to exploit the tragedy.

But let me be sure I have this right. You and Justin agree that Obama might steal money intended for the Red Cross to help the wretched of Haiti.

This conversation came 48 hours after many of us had seen pitiful sights from Port au Prince. Tens of thousands are believed still alive beneath the rubble. You twisted their suffering into an opportunity to demean the character of the President of the United States.

You have a sizable listening audience. You apparently know how to please them. Anybody given a $400 million contract must know what he is doing.

That's what offends me. You know exactly what you're doing.

1. How can any loving God let a treasure like Ebert be so sick...
while a piece of human waste, like Limbaugh enjoys good health? Ebert speaks for me.

34. It's a faith test.
Clearly Ebert still has it. I'm impressed. I saw this on DU sticking out like a sore thumb. Actions speak louder than words. Whats Rush doing? Sitting on his fat ass not donating. Hence no actions. Nevermind there are actual Americans down there dying too. We just had one near where we live I guess died in the quake. Really nice guy I guess going to Wartburg in Iowa. His wife is safe don't know much more (local www.kwwl.com probably has more) just the sort that goes down and helps people in need. I'd like to see if Rush can Rush down there and see if he lasts a day. Yes the anchors and news dudes at MSNBC are complaining about getting sunburned. Although I'm surprised Brian Williams is down there, he's taking a really big risk if something goes wrong.

I kinda hope this pushes us to get Gauntonomo (sp) Bay inmates out of there faster so we can use it as an emergency hospital. Throwing the Talibans assertion (and Al Queda ) that Gauntanimo is a building for torture and turning into a place that saves lives instead.

(actress Alyssa Milano tweeted she donated $50,000 and was seeing if Corporations would match that)

48. Yeah, I don't buy it the 'faith test' stuff.
I hate that 'God chastens those he loves' crap. I wouldn't do that to someone I love, and if someone I loved put me through such pain and suffering, they'd get a quick slap and a 'see ya', not worship.

despite his political leanings and any of the rest. I managed front row seats to see him for my parents not long before they died. Memories of their joy is something that carried me through the sadness of losing them.

45. A god that doesn't micromanage or doesn't exist
While I do understand the need for gods in the lives of people, I've never understood the need for who micromanages on the Santa Claus naughty/nice, sees you when you're sleeping and with whom level. Aren't gods supposed to be, well, godlike, and no doling out random chances of health or sickness on the just or unjust?

Which reminds me, it rains upon the just and unjust alike, to quote from a popular god.

Might not Ebert's god be why he is still alive?

till it runs over your kid...

this guy is really great, i saw him on CSPN Booknotes... this cutting edge science explains so much about people.. especially Rush and the other Narcissistic OCB Haters.

i always thought there was a region of the brain that caused an inexplainable void that people attributed to gods..
and basically i was right.

85. You don't know how ill Ebert has been?
The past few years he has had multiple surgeries related to his thyroid cancer... Because of complications he has had multiple attempts to reconstruct--all failing to the point where he has had to rely on stomach tube for all fluid and nutrition-- He will never be able to eat or drink again, much less talk and resume his tv appearances. It has been hell for him, yet he keeps plugging along. He deserves admiration...

"...Statistics

In 2009, an estimated 37,200 adults (10,000 men and 27,200 women) in the United States will be diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It is estimated that 1,630 deaths (690 men and 940 women) from this disease will occur this year. Thyroid cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women.

The five-year relative survival rate (the percentage of people who survive at least five years after the cancer is detected, excluding those who die from other diseases) for all stages of thyroid cancer is about 97%. The five-year relative survival rate of papillary and follicular thyroid cancers and MTC range from 97% to 100% for early-stage cancer and decrease with later-stage cancer (See Staging). Anaplastic thyroid cancer is associated with a much lower survival rate...."

To Rush:

Fuck you, you piece of shit truth denying, soul-less, heartless, mindless, greedy, fat son of a bitch. I hope you burn in hell for walking on the corpses of innocents in Haiti, and for your entire life of self serving greed. You compare everyone that disagrees with you to Hitler, but you are the one in fact with your prokaryote-like intelligence that is most like that mass murderer. I'm embarrassed that there is someone as fucked up as you on the same planet as myself.

43. Sure he can!
This sort of hate filled vitriol plays beautifully to his target audience. Since they're who he gets paid the big bucks to attract, that's the sort of obscenity he'll keep spewing.

Selling hatred is a lot like selling violence. Your audience gets jaded and demands a higher level to remain interested. Dear old Rush is caught in a vicious cycle, the moment he stops being more disgusting and offensive will be the moment that he begins his long fall from the pinnacle of hate where he's currently king of the mountain.

I always liked Roger Ebert and am sad he has had serious health issues. Gene Siskel and him were the best back in the day and I loved their show.

Its nice to know he has always been on the good side in his politics, though there wasn't much doubt about that.

And I mean that, by using the word good deliberately. The republican party as it is today, it is evil and appeals to the scum of the earth only.

25. So, every once in awhile I tune in to Limbaugh...
...just to hear what kind of crazy things he says. I actually heard this exchange and literally said, out loud, in my car, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"

I couldn't believe. There is very little that actually elicits that kind of response from me...but the underlying accusations in this exchange got me fired up.

Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 02:06 AM by GreenTea
He certainly doesn't have to, nor need put himself out there, for any other reason other than he morally must speak out against insensitivity, hate, stupidity & lies, ones that try justifying their smug arrogant pontificating of injustice & prejudice, as Limbaugh constantly does without repercussions...Thanks once again Roger Ebert. You're truly a fine man.

The wealthy republican elitist Pigman Limbaugh will spew any disgraceful bullshit for his hate, racism, divide & political gain....No words of disgust I can think of that fits this repulsive creature.

"fix" your personal biology, and yet you still speak for me and many others ..... All I can say is "good show, good show."

all the best,

75. I've often thought about this.
When I reach the end of my days on this earth, I'd like to be able to look back and think that I haven't been completely useless. That space, resources and oxygen haven't been completely wasted upon me. That I've been as kind and thoughtful as possible, given my faults and idiosyncracies as a human being. That perhaps I've even been able to provide a measure of comfort and joy to those near and dear, or afar but still dear. That the pain I've caused others wasn't inflicted upon them purposely. That I've tried to make amends and coexist peacefully.

And then there's Rush. I do believe that this heartless, hate-spewing, stinking piece of fermenting trash actually enjoys being, well, himself. Inciting a particularly vulnerable segment of the population to follow his Pied Piper routine, becoming equally hateful, equally heartless and harmful. What I wish upon him as he takes his last breath is the crystal clear realization that the world would have been better off without him. And to me, that would be a terrible last thought.

81. Roger Ebert to Rush Limbaugh
Rush the lish Limbaugh has always portrayed himself as strong
on National Defense yet he now calls the military "meals
on wheels". Had he actually had the courage to put his
fat butt on the line during Vietnam he might have a bit of
credibility, but he was to cowardly to do that. Now, he parks
his fat ass behind a microphone and says he "has talent
on loan from God".

The only thing Rush has ever proven to me is that there is a
God, I mean, does anyone serious think that two amoeba
swimming in a tidal pool billions of years ago would have had
the sense of humor to create such a pompous self serving
assinine blowhard?

82. Ebert owns limpballs
Anyone who believes Limbaugh is off the opiates is in deep denial. Having seen the behavior patterns of opiate addicts first hand I am willing to bet my home and all my material posessions that
Rushdie is still abusing the PK pills because of his malovent, psychotic demeanor. He has become an individual full of "righteous" hatred spewing simply EVIL lies meant to harm, hurt and disparage others who refuse to see the world through through his sh*t filled eye lenses. Make no mistake, this is who sick psychopathic piece of crap who loves his money waaaaaaay more than his country.
May his soul burn in hell for eternity. (One can only hope.)
