Support Coakley, just so Dems won't have an excuse.
Frankly speaking, I don't know much about Coakley or Brown, and at this point, with all I've got going on in my life, I don't have the time to find out.

But I urge people to support Coakley if for only one reason, so that the Democratic party can't hide behind that old excuse of "we don't have sixty votes".

Granted, it's not like they've done much good with sixty votes, but I still think we should work hard to insure that Dems continue to have sixty votes for at least a little while longer. Why? So that liberals, progressives and the left can see just how damn ineffective and corporately corrupted the Democratic party is. I want that lesson driven home hard for the next ten months.

If Brown wins, this won't happen because it will allow Dems to hide behind the polite fig leaf of not having a super majority. Never mind the fact that previous Democratic Congresses have done much good without having a super majority. Never mind the fact that this Congress has done very little good with a super majority. Nope, the spin will be that the party is paralyzed without a super majority (never mind that they would still have large Congressional majorities and the White House)

So please, support Coakley, so that the Democratic party can't use weasel words to excuse themselves for not doing a damn thing that is of any good. Thank you.

2. And the Dems will continue to do little if any good,
Fair enough, hopefully it will wake people up to the fact of how little difference there really is between the two major parties.

4. People already are awake
That's why half the eliglble voters in the US don't vote.
Two parties - both the same.

:hi: Although I agree with you that the Dems shouldn't get cover for their deeds by losing a seat.

It'll be interesting to see the turnout for this MA election

But I want this painted in big, bright letters so that even the most clueless have to wake up and take notice.

6. K&R....back UP to +4
The WORST thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party was having America give them:
The White House
*The House
*Filibuster proof Majority in the Senate

No. More. EXCUSES!

"Oh, but it is all Joe Lieberman's fault."

Not. Buying. It.

K&R for the BEST reason for supporting Coakley

With Democrat Martha Coakley in trouble in the Massachusetts special election to fill Ted Kennedy's seat, Democrats could lose vote No. 60 for President Obama's health-care bill. In response, an army of lobbyists for drug companies, health insurance companies, and hospitals has teamed up to throw a high-dollar Capitol Hill fundraiser for Coakley next Tuesday night. The invitation is here.
Of the 22 names on the host committee--meaning they raised $10,000 or more for Coakley--17 are federally registered lobbyists, 15 of whom have health-care clients. Of the other five hosts, one is married to a lobbyist, one was a lobbyist in Pennsylvania, another is a lawyer at a lobbying firm, and another is a corporate CEO. Oh, and of course, there's also the political action commitee for Boston Scientific Corporation.
All the leading drug companies have lobbyists on Coakley's host committee: Pfizer, Merck, Amgen, Sanofi-Aventis, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Astra-Zeneca, and more. On the insurance side of things, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, HealthSouth, and United Health all are represented on the host committee.

She's bought and paid for by the healthcare industry and Big Pharma. People are sick and tired of this shit.

10. That fund raiser was held in DC. Wonder who arranged that. She
was against this bill till they twisted her arm and made her flip. She won her primary by standing against this shit bill. Please be mad at this administration who were going to kill her chances of election if she didn't go along to get along. We in MA put the blame and the consequences of this special election where it belongs not on Martha.

There's always excuses, they'll just have one less.

9. They will have their 60 votes even without Coakley. They
are just going to delay certification.

Read this:

I will be voting for Coakley because she was really against this bill till they twisted her arm and made her flip.

11. Support Coakley because she is the Democrat. Period. DU exists
to help elect Democrats to office, at least in part. I believe that is still a part of it's stated mission.

12. I have never supported anybody simply because of the party they belong to
That's a foolish and stupid way of approaching politics. There have been horrible Democrats and good Republicans.

But in this instance I want the people to elect Coakley to office, just so this country can see had badly the party itself has deteriorated. Even with a super majority, House majority and the White House, the Democrats continue to follow the corporately corrupt playbook that both parties seem to read and follow.

14. In this case we have a Democrat running against a Republican. The choice is obvious.
I wish we had better Democratic candidates in many cases, though. Especially where I live - out west. Thankfully they're better than the Democrats were where I used to live - the south. But it'll be a long time, if ever, that we see really liberal Dems here.

19. Really, why is it obvious?
What are their respective positions? What have they done in the past.

Again, you're trying to sell the notion that I should support a Democrat just because there's a D in back of her name. Sorry, but I don't play that game.

Though I imagine that over the past thirty plus years of political activity I've done more for the Democratic party than pious party members such as yourself.

Oh, and your bully boy bellowings of "vote Democrastic:rofl: or get the fuck out" certainly doesn't seem like the mouthings of a pious Democrat, but more like that demands of a fascist. Is that what your party has come to, bully boy tactics and fearmongering? That dime's worth of difference is looking more and more like just a couple of cents.

I would love to see that happen, just to watch Democratic heads such as yours explode while trying to reconcile the contradictions. Or maybe it wouldn't explode, given how Dems have managed to stomach the likes of Nelson and such.
