The least members should do is indicate the state in their profile.
If they don't want the city the member could just as easily use their Congressional District #.

And profiles should always be on. The only thing that I see as being too personal is the ICQ and AIM contact. Just leave it disabled.

12. Some of us have a "problem" with PRIVACY and ID PROTECTION.
If you have been on the internet tubes for any length of time and don't understand that, then you need to reassess your demands of others.

10. You certainly have a lot of "shoulds" for other people.
Here's something for you to consider...

Some of us, and I am one of them, have been stalked by someone from this forum, and it is SCARY.

Do you stand ready to protect us if we give you the info you desire?

If not, then why are you making demands that increase the risk some of us face?

Just a bit of understanding and compassion would be nice.

19. personally, i think everyone should have a profile page, but it's up to an individual what they want

to include.

I don't understand why date of joining should be a "secret" (unless one is a troll).

All other info (gender, city, state, links, comments, whatever!) should be left absolutely up to a poster's personal choice.

24. The date of joining isn't a secret even if a profile is hidden.
Edited on Fri Jan-15-10 05:21 PM by Make7
The user id numbers here are assigned in numerical order. Any registered member can easily determine the the date of when somebody joined. As an example I will use myself:

First determine the user id number by looking at the number following '&u_id=' in the link for sending someone a PM or adding them to your 'buddy list'. My user id number is 145813. If you put that number in a link for a user profile...

   http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=user_profiles&u_id=145813

... you will see a message that the profile has been disabled. However, if you replace my user id number with the one right before it or after it, you can see the date of registration of the person who joined right before or after me.

   http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=user_profiles&u_id=145814

Both of those members joined on Jun 18th 2004. Guess when I joined?

27. I sorta agree with you - heck I even list my town!
.
.
.

As for profiles - those that have them disabled, rarely get any response from me - and their lack of info DOES influence how serious I take their posting.

I don't really care what posters put in their profiles, but I treat those with honest profiles with much more respect than I do those with no profile, or very evasive ones.

I think LACK of info in profiles may speak volumes about the integrity of the poster, and respond(or not) accordingly.

That's my Canuk contribution

31. I just consider those posters....
Paid posters trying to maintain the status quo for Corporate America and/or the Republican (DLC) Lites.
Seems to be a lot of them joining in 2008 as well.

If some don't like it? Then show yourself.
