Angry Haitians block roads with corpses: witness
Source: Reuters

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Angry Haitians set up roadblocks with corpses in Port-au-Prince to protest at the delay in emergency aid reaching them after a devastating earthquake, an eyewitness said,

Shaul Schwarz, a photographer for TIME magazine, said he saw at least two downtown roadblocks formed with bodies of earthquake victims and rocks.

"They are starting to block the roads with bodies, it's getting ugly out there, people are fed up with getting no help," he told Reuters.

1. So they're angry that aid is taking time, but then are blocking the roads....
with CORPSES ensuring that aid takes even longer to get there?

10. People don't tend to keep a cool head when faced with apocalyptic devastation.
But otherwise, I agree with the majority of posters on this thread - the story sounds a bit dubious, at the least.

4. I don't, either
They might be stacking them in the roads so that someone will be forced to pick them up.

If you've ever smelled a decomposing body, you know why.

7. Yes, apparently there are fork lifts picking up bodies and putting them on trucks
to take them to burial sites out of town.

5. maybe it's so aid will have to stop there when it arrives?
They're probably seeing so many reporters and rescue workers going by without handing out food and water. Maybe that's why. Otherwise it makes no sense to me either.

8. the comments are just plain fucking ridiculous.
i have a feeling the whole story is not being told here.

a TIMES photographer reports it, yet there are no photos. even if they are doing this there logically has to be a reason.

9. Aren't the roads already blocked by bodies and rocks...
due to the earthquake?

I'm note sure I believe this.

11. Don't buy this crap so fast....
Remember when they said Katrina victims were SHOOTING AT rescue aircraft?? They were not, they were trying to signal for help. I smell more than rotting corpses here.

12. Yup, me, too! I've learned to question almost every word our corpo-fascist 'news' monopolies
write about Latin America--and those shooting stories about Katrina were REALLY FOUL LIES. This kind of rumor-mongering by the press is disgusting. They should never, ever, EVER print a story like this without thorough vetting, and even then, they might have just a teensy weensy bit of compassion for people who have been suddenly plunged into Dante's Inferno!

Where the hell else do you put them when you are sifting rubble for survivors??

14. The press are just willfully naive every time.
But their "mistakes" always help RW talking points.

F***ing idiots.

16. As I was channel surfing the cable news stations today...
MSNBC and CNN were mainly reporting on the human suffering and humanitarian aid. FOX news? Surprise, surprise; they were all about violence in the streets, young men with machetes, escaped prisoners roaming around and the dire need for the American military to arrive with guns.

I believe most Corporate Media has a message to promote, but FOX is so incredibly *obvious* about it! (Scary black poor people on a rampage.)

19. Sounds like crap.
The rubble has to be moved somewhere to get to survivors and I suspect people are putting the bodies into the streets for faster pickup when the streets are opened.
