I know Venezuela and Cuba sent aid to Haiti. Why were they not
included on the list of countries being thanked for support?

1. They weren't? Venezuela beat out the U.S., I believe, in being the first to offer aid.
Thanked by whom? What are you referring to?

2. Preval said, "I want to thank all the countries..."
January 13, 2010 5:14 p.m. EST

Preval said he himself had not been spared. "I cannot live in the palace; I cannot live in my own house," he said. "The two collapsed." He added that he did not know where he was going to sleep Wednesday night, but was not worried. "I have plenty of time to look for a bed," he said late in the afternoon. "But now I am working on how to rescue the people. Sleeping is not the problem."

He called on the international community to be generous. "We need doctors, we need medicine, we need medical help in general," he said.

Preval said he was confident the capital of the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere would not erupt in violence. "The people understand the situation, and they see that everybody is doing their best to help them," he said.

Asked what he wanted to tell the world, Preval said, "I want to thank all the countries that have started to help us," and then he went through a list that included the United States, France, Canada, Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Israel.

that managed to mostly escape injury and is being resupplied at the mo.More help is also on the way.

Venezuela is sending help but I don't know any details.

4. He did? Really? What a liar! I remember being impressed with how quickly Venezuela
offered help, and I read something about Cuba having rescue teams all primed to go--very early on.

5. Yeah...the very next day
Said something to the effect of Cuba and Chavez not giving any aid, because they had nothing to spare before going after Obama, insinuating that the tragedy meant that Obama could "burnish his image" by providing aid.
