Whenever the Democrats lose an election, it always moves them to the right.

If Coakley loses in Massachusetts on Tuesday, look at Ben Nelson and see what will at that precise moment be considered "slightly left of center" in a Democratic Party that has lost a major election.

1. Bill Clinton won in 1992 and 1996. Each time he won he moved even further right.

3. He didn't move further right until 1995

after losing the Congress. Remember, DADT was EXTREMELY to the left when it was instituted because for the first time, the military could not investigate suspicions a person was gay. HCR under Clinton was going to be EXTREMELY left, until the Dems in the Congress killed it.

After 1996, he still had nothing helping him in congress as it was still Republican controlled, so he moved further right.

After 1998, the Dems moved a slightly to the left having picked up a few seats, but that went to hell in 2000 when they made a seismic move to the right.

Then they lost in 2002, and moved further right.

Then they lost in 2004, and moved even further to the right.

Then they won in 2006, and moved slightly to the left. Hardly noticeable, but the momentum to the right stopped.

Won again in 2008 and yet again, another slight move to the left.

Losing this one seat will mean another seismic move to the right

In 2007, a stimulus bill would never have been considered, let alone passed, even if the financial conditions were 100 times worse than they were in 2009.
