Support Haitian Artisans
http://www.fairtradewinds.net/category_s/129.htm

Join us in support of Haitian artisans

Dear friend of Fair Trade Winds,

The natural disaster that rocked Haiti on January 12 is a human tragedy. We are writing to ask for your support of Fair Trade Winds' partner artisans in Haiti who create beautiful handcrafted sculptures made of recycled oil drums, and we pray that their families are safe. Because the group is Fair Trade certified, they are ensured payment up front for their handiwork. Your purchase of Haitian art from Fair Trade Winds directly supports the artisans at a time when they need it most.

To assist in the relief efforts, Fair Trade Winds will donate 10% of your purchase of these sculptures to Haiti disaster relief through the Lutheran World Federation. 100% of these funds will be used for immediate relief assistance. Lutheran World Federation staff are currently on the ground in Haiti, focusing on water safety and sanitation, assisting with medical triage, and providing emergency sheltering for the many who are now homeless.

Purchase these works of art at Fair Trade Winds online and through our store via
ebay's World of Good.

You may also purchase these sculptures at our stores:
3950 University Drive
Fairfax, Virginia
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
and Sunday 12 pm - 6:00 pm

119 Main Street
Bar Habor, Maine
Winter hours: Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Please call us at 703-877-0577 with any questions.

More about the sculptures:

The Haitian artisans split open and flatten 55-gallon oil drums. They sketch their design on the steel with chalk, and then cut the design using only a hammer and a chisel.

These sculptures can be displayed indoor or out. If displayed outdoors, the varnish will wear away over time and the sculpture will begin to rust naturally. You can also maintain the original look by spraying it with a clear enamel every couple of years. Each sculpture is signed by the artist.

Many thanks for your support from the Fair Trade Winds family.
Great products. Greater impact.

20. Yes, and there's a reason for that.
This was more than one unrec into negative territory when I got here. I can't imagine what could have caused that on this thread except mindlessness or meanness. If people can unrec (and they can), I can comment on it.

19. Here is another arts company which has been around for 20 years
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 07:31 AM by Mimosa
http://www.haitian-art-co.com/>Haitian Art Company of Key West FL has been around for 20 years or more. Serious collectors (I've been among them) know it.

http://www.haitian-art-co.com/

If you want to help Haitian artists, please check it out. The owners are generous people who help Haitian artists and the art will brighten your home and heart. Look at the site and enjoy.

I also recommend the late Selden Rodman's book on Haitian Art "Where Art is Joy."
