For all of you critical of Sanjay Gupta, the doctors left the MASH unit
and I cannot blame them. Sanjay staid behind to take care of patients with the cameraman

Now perhaps you all will be happier. I am not sure I'd be that much of a hero, then again Sanjay does have a security team with him, you can bet on it, but still.

very dangerous situation he is in right now...

21. he always helps medically where he is, he did in Iraq as well. He is
a doctor who takes his oath seriously when the need presents itself.

3. I've loved how CNN has not been afraid to become part of the story
as the situation dictated during this crisis.

CNN deserves major kudos. All other news services have fallen flat on their faces on this one.

4. He now has 25 patients on his hands and virtually no supplies. Hopefully something
will be arranged so that some if the drs can return.

8. Either that, or en-force evac for all
When Anderson said we'll talk off camera, I am sure the sec team on the field and his sec team are talking about it... and he may ask the US Military (Command in-situ) to task people...

17. Hopefully that's what will happen. AC is now showing replays from earlier hours
when he had been going until 9pm pst the last few nights. Maybe they're getting something sorted out. Gupta needs some assistance, that's for sure.

6. They had nearby rioting and the UN ordered them out
the UN perhaps, and that is my second guessing, should have put a perimeter, but that is another story.

I am not there to see exactly what is going on.

9. I'd love to hear their definition of "rioting".
If you have to move camp, fine, but you take those under your care with you. You don't abandon them.

13. Since all we are seeing is a TENT, I cannot judge... don't have all the data
What I do know is that CNN has some of the best security teams in the business... so if they feel that Sanjay could stay, most likely they can keep him safe... (I hope)

14. Is there not one or two people who could stand with a gun at the front door & tell anyone coming up
not to riot in the makeshift hospital. I realize it's insane on the ground, but to do nothing just allows hundreds of thousands to die without help. I realize the military is drawing up their plans/orders for tomorrow's large force move, but couldn't they have at least secured the perimeter around hosp/makeshift hosp?

thanks for your thoughts considering your previous exp.

16. That is what I suspect Anderson Cooper (or most likely his logistics and
security people) are arranging right now.

If they send in the cavalry, it could be anything from the 82nd to the Mexican Federal Police, or for god sakes military personnel from a multitude of nations.

22. people are probably hallucinating after three days of no water, no food
and constant trauma. I doubt even gunfire would stop a stampede.

24. yup you need numbers more than guns in these situations
people who are traumatized and hungry will follow commands but they need to be constantly moved down the line so to speak and for that you need numbers...

7. I can't imagine doctors doing such a thing.
I could not be persuaded to leave my patients behind in such a state. The chain of command could go fuck themselves, I'd be taking care of my patients.

12. In the middle of a riot in Tijuana I had to order my ambulances
to stay out of the zone.

Hardest order I ever gave... a crew that decided not to obey was stoned... thankfully they just needed a new windshield.

And you know why it happened? Anger was already seething, a car crashed taking literally half the electric grid... and I was going to go home early.

It was one of the longest nights...

Why I do get it... I'd have to be ON SITE to be able to judge if the order was even appropriate from the UN.

And just leaving the sick and wounded behind to fend for themselves???

10. Normally a critic, but I gotta say, this time CNN is
actually REPORTING, and not spinning (at least Cooper and Gupta aren't) and are digging in. Did see the Doctor (is it Robert Bazell? I know that spelling is off) from NBC pitching in too.

they are great in disasters, but suck in between

There is a reason though. Right now CNN and CNN-I are the same.
