Poll question: Help me decide on an acronym
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 01:25 PM by bain_sidhe
I'm tired of seeing the piece-of-shit, tax-good-benefits excise tax being called the "Cadillac" tax, because - for the most part - it's not a tax on luxury plans (although they would be hit as well), it's a tax on a Chevy that runs very well. But "Low Mileage, Well-Maintained Chevy" doesn't roll off the tongue, and it's too long to type repeatedly. And, then, there are other choices, too... So, I need an acronym. What do you think should be my new acronym?

1. "Tax on plans that are inferior to the coverage most other developed nations offer universally"?

Most of these "good" plans ain't that great.

2. Hmmm. That would be TOPTAITTCMODNOU
Still too long to type easily. I voted for TGIPOOEP (I pronounce it as T.G.I. poop).

3. Who needs an acronym?
Call it what it is: a Union Tax. This is a tax on health care plans won by unions over decades of struggle. So, be up-front about it.

4. That's pretty good!
Mind if I add it? (I'd vote for it if I could change my vote!)

5. By all means, add it
It's all about the sound byte.

9. On second thought, though anti-union sentiment is so strong -
even on this board, that calling it a "union tax" might INCREASE it's support. How very sad.

13. It is sad
And it says a lot that those people aren't run out of here on a rail.

Anyway, as for a substitute, call it a "Life Tax". The rightwingers have their "death tax" sound byte, this is a "life tax" -- a tax on having a long and healthy life because of access to good health care. You want to live longer, you have to pay the tax.

7. Acronyms need to be short
and it helps if one can pronounce them.

I propose TGI, Tax Good Insurance, "tiggy" for short.
