Pat Robertson didn't even get the history right with his little rant
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 01:50 PM by ck4829
"They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil"

Haiti became independent of France in 1804.

Napoleon III wasn't even born until 1808.

And to think that this guy wanted to be President at one point.

2. True story
So he said.

When ever someone throws a true story in the middle, radar goes up.

Not that I would have believed a fucking word that mean old man ever said.

5. I Noticed That Too
Haiti did not win its independence under Napoleon III, because N3 ruled in the 1850s and 1860s. Napoleon Bonaparte ruled in the early nineteenth century. It's not just French history or Haitian history - Bonaparte sold us Louisiana (in part because of the revolt in Haiti) and N3 tried to take advantage during our Civil War by moving into Mexico.
