Both son-in-laws headed to Haiti
One is stationed on the Carl Vinson but was in special training when they shipped out. He is likely headed out on the next plane to the ship or Guantanamo.

My other son-in-law is at Ft. Hood. He was called in to a meeting today and told they were on standby (2 hour notice) for humanitarian mission to Haiti.

2. At this point, they might have a terrible job ahead of them
because patience is wearing thin and any semblance of order is breaking down as people become more desperate. Their job might be to maintain order among dying people, always a terrible job.

It's also the only way the safety of people delivering aid can be assured, along with assuring the aid isn't stolen and held for ransom by thugs.

4. yep
my nephew was deployed to Katrina and that experience really changed him. Haiti is so much worse.

Best of luck to them and megathanks for their service.

5. Things will settle down by tomorrow
Food and water are reaching people now - in a variety of ways. Some countries emergency people are serving hot meals and others are dropping MREs. NGOs are also serving meals and I've also seen people cooking their own food in the parks.

6. At least they are not headed to the mid east (for now)
The one in Ft. Hood has already been over there twice and has had two back surgeries due to an IED.
