A Coakley loss would be devastating to Obama
President Obama is going to campaign for Coakley on Sunday, so he is upping the stakes there. The plain truth is that if the Dem loses, and the republicans fill Teddy Kennedy's seat in Mass. it will be a devastating blow to Obama's political credibility. Not only would the repubs get an all important 41st vote to put up a roadblock to Obama's agenda, it will send shockwaves to other Dems running in November that Obama and his agenda is toxic.

Sorry but I know the Obama defenders will try to spin a loss there in all sorts of ways, and probably blame the left, but it will be tough to spin it any other way than disaster for the way Obama and the democrats have been governing since they were voted into power.

And I'm not happy about it either, believe me. I hope the Dem can pull it out, otherwise the Obama presidency may go down in flames. He is already below 50 % approval in a lot of polls, and it is a very low rating, and unusual for a relatively new president to lose the nations confidence so quickly.

1. I doubt he would be stumping for her if the numbers were that bad.

11. If she was way ahead, he would be going there? That makes no sense.

17. Under the current circumstances, hell yes!
The media is saying it's a tossup or Brown is ahead.

If she's doing really well in the polls, his political capital rises with her win, just as a loss would devastate his political capital.

22. Close enough that a push of 1-2% could ensure that she's over the top.

Do you have an issue with Democrats wanting to win?

2. Which is why I figure their internal polling shows Coakley doing well.
IF there was an imminent chance of loss, no way would Obama go. They'd send Biden, Hillary, Bill, and everybody else, but Obama would not show if she were really behind in the internal polling.

Honestly I can't, they are going to scream with the volume on eleven no matter what the big O does..

I read it.

I don't buy it.

Expectations are being set. This race has become Brown's to lose.

A single blogger and some time free lance writer in some bigger papers reporting he was"reliably informed" is a purposeful leak.

Coakley's campaign wanted that out there.

Clarification on Coakley's Internals

There is some confusion over what Martha Coakley's internal poll numbers have been showing. I've reported that her own poll showed her trailing Scott Brown by three points (47-44) on Thursday and leading by two on Wednesday night (46-44). There were other reports yesterday that her polling actually showed a dead even race, prompting some confusion.

To clarify: The campaign actually has two sets of numbers -- one for each night they poll, and one an average of the three most current nights. The numbers I reported were from individual nights, Thursday and Wednesday. Her three-night average -- as of Thursday night -- did show a dead even race, which I can only assume is what was being reported elsewhere. (Her three-night total on Wednesday put her ahead by two (46-44); when Brown's three-point lead on Thursday night was factored in, the new average became even.)

And no, as of now, I don't have her numbers from Friday night.

Does anyone know when Kos will have their numbers?

8. A loss of Teddy's seat to a Pub would be devasating to all Dems!
I don't live even near Mass. but I wish I could somehow make all the Dems get off their butts and vote on Tues! That's what's going to make the diff. Whichever Party gets their people to the polls is going to win! Mass. is the bluest State in the US! Surely they can't let the dumbass Pubs take this away!

12. I'm glad the President is going. But it is a good new/bad news deal
I think it's bad news that he needs to go and do not think he would be going if we were not worried this seat could fall to Republicans. The good new is if she wins after he campaigns for her it will shake up the Republican talking points quite a bit.

I am alarmed to see this seat is in any jeopardy. Crossing my fingers for the President to make a big difference. I don't like a lot of what he's doing but without those 60 seats I see no way to push him back to the left even a little bit.

Not saying she can NOT lose, but she better freaking fight if there's any indication of horseplay.

20. Let's hope. Even more of a pisser than if she were to lose would be if she lost under a cloud and
the party looked the other way.

I don't like what I'm hearing out of there. Hopefully, the President has a little of that 'old time religion' in him and some points he can score with liberals. There are several moves he has made in HCR this past week which were positive. Highlighting those would be-the scaling back of the excise tax will endear him to unions and I know a lot of MA nurses, who want some serious health care reform, are union members. He is, also, asking both the Senate and the House to decrease the time period of exclusivity for the biotech companies. This was triggered by the need to now replace the revenue which would have come from the excise tax but it is also a help to people and will lower their costs for these drugs to get the generics out sooner. The tax he is asking for on the financial institutions will play well. If he has any rabbits up his sleeve on job creation programs, now is the time to pull 'em out. I think he has shifted slightly left on some things in the past week but it will be important for people to know that. His visit there may get the attention they need for this.

23. It is simple really...America voted for "CHANGE"...
...and got the same old bullshit.

"I did not campaign on a Public Option."

Less than 35% of ALL Americans support mandates without a Public Option.
What do the Democrats THINK is going to happen when they FORCE this unpopular bullshit on America?

The Democrats are scrambling frantically to put lipstick on this PIG of a Bill,
but they will NOT be able to hide the fat, disgusting body of this PIG:

Mandates without a Public Option

24. What would it mean to the people of Massachusetts?
Because the voters don't actually give a damn if it is devastating to Obama. They care about their jobs, keeping their homes and their kids futures.

Can you rephrase that or is it just about Obama?

26. Reinstate the public option and keep the House this year
That would bring the left out to vote, and with the independents swaying back and forth, the Dems need the left.
