when it happened in the U.S., people were trapped in the Superdome for days without water. I understand that it is hard to get water everywhere it is needed. What I could not understand was why that concentrated population of thousands, which was being televised, was not provided with basic WATER. I remember calling up my (then) Republican senator and screaming at his staffer to tell the Senator to demand that fucking Bush AT LEAST order delivery of water to the Superdome.

I'm not criticizing aid deployment to Haiti. I know there are monumental hurdles, and the organizations are doing their best. I was just commenting on the OP that said if it had been the U.S., it would have arrived earlier. Not necessarily so, as Katrina/Bush proved.

9. This is why you should be happy to see this in a way, there is good news

it shows how different of an aproach to disasters there is now.

We are talking of competence.

As horrific as Katrina was... I am willign to bet a dime on the dollar that a Competent FEMA, and the rest of the responders, would have evacuated the super dome in a timely manner.

The capacity is back... and it warms my heart. At the same time it should enrage most people.

But it goes without saying again, be ready to be on your own for 72 yours regardless.

I am going to replenish my water stash this week. I have several jugs, but you can't have enough water. We have to worry about both earthquakes and volcanic eruptions here in the NW.

so this time I think I will do MRE (or the camping equivalent) and USCG water... more expensive yes, but longer shelf life. So it comes out in the wash.

No troops around.

The people in line were kids. The adults were sitting back patiently waiting.

that is the ambulance bay at the Mexican Red Cross in Polanco, Mexico City... took me a second to recognize it.

Those are the volunteers putting all that together to send to Veracruz, to ship by Navy Ship.

And the two gentlemen in the forefront are veterans, who can no longer do the heavy lifting in an ambulance so they do this every time... why the lack of a uniform.
