Dems should not be arguing with Limbaugh and Palin. They should be arguing with "GOP Spokesperson" Rush Limbaugh and "GOP Spokesperson" Sarah Palin. We constantly allow Limbaugh and Palin to do the dirty work for the GOP while the GOP maintains an air of distance.
There is a tactic one sometimes sees in meetings. If you are arguing a point, choose the weakest, most ineffective opponent as the person you expect to respond to what you say. Don't let the more reasonable or intelligent opponents have any oxygen. Force them to sit politely while their points are made (and discredited) by the fools among them.
All you have to do is direct your argument toward the fool. The fool will oblige.
Plainly, Rush Limbaugh just put fresh blood on his hands. Let's get some on the GOP. A whole bunch of their cracked base agrees with Limbaugh. The GOP needs to pay for that. Right now, the GOP is the party whose "real leader" tries to discourage emergency contributions to dying people in the midst of a crisis.
When a Dem is talking to a Michael Steele or a John McCain, the ultimate cut is then, "That's all fine Michael, but I have to admit I'm more interested in what your true leaders, like Rush Limbaugh, have to say." Then let the media take it from there. Crazy boy will be on the air half an hour later.
