I just read a piece in the Boston Globe that say's the polls are all over the place.

What is your sense---after talking to your friends, neighbors, work colleagues---folks on the street---of how this is going to turn out?

"Brown" signs all over the place in my area.

Coakley should be up by 15, but her campaign got off on the wrong foot. Lots of genuinely PO'd voters here in MA for a variety reasons, and that's not good.

Meanwhile, I'm voting Coakley and trying to stay optimistic..................

3. I will tell you the truth. I just want to cry.

It is not pretty here. This seat is so symbolic, to lose it will be heartbreaking, especially here in our blue state. I'm scared. I think its going to be close. All the energy is on the republican side and its big and loud. Dems want to stay home, Independents are breaking red (we have a lot of independents). We are going to need all the well wishes we can get. I can't even imagine not holding this seat.

He voted usually voted dema dn voted for Obama, but he voted for Brown. The economy and steaming pile they are calling HCR are is stated reasons.

6. My BIL lives in Somerville

He tells me that there are no signs for anybody. This is not good. In 2002, O'Brien got 61%.

He feels that turnout in Boston is the key. The rest of the state is in the bag for the centerfold. The city turnout has to be heavy to have a chance.

The weather forecast is cold with a 40% chance of precipitation.

9. If the state's Dems get off their asses and vote, Coakley will win

I plan on being at the polls early Tuesday morning to vote for her. Every Repuke in the state is going to show up to vote for Brown. So Dems need to outnumber them at the polls. We outnumber them in the state, so we just need to lose the complacency and get to the polls.

10. Blue in the Bluest state

I'm a longtime MA resident. I live in a very rural part of the state. I intend to vote for Coakley. All my relatives are voting for Coakley. Brown is feeding off populist rage here about the economy and the HCR debacle. Like the rest of the country, things are going from bad to worse. If I hadn't witnessed Romney's election here years ago I would have more confidence in Coakley's chances for an easy victory. There are pockets of strong Republican support in this state. Right wing hate radio controls the airways here as well with very few exceptions. That situation really irritates me. My phone is being bombarded with robocalls from Brown. Last night I even got a robocall from Curt Schilling on Brown's behalf. Now I will be forever grateful to Curt for helping the Red Sox end their 86 year curse, but I cannot stand the guy's political views. Brown was an obscure pol in this state. The more I learn about the guy the more I despise his political positions. And info is coming out about what kind of person he is and it's not flattering. I will do my part Tuesday. I wish I could give you a better feeling about this situation. Unfortunately even in MA we have many Republicans, tea-baggers, haters, etc. I am eagerly awaiting Obama's speech at Northeastern University at 3:00 PM today. He had better hit a home run on Coakley's behalf today. He needs to use all his skills to explain the consequences to his agenda that would result from a Coakley defeat. Hoping for the best from the wilderness of western MA.

I only saw one sign for Brown out here.

I'm not hearing any anti-Coakley stuff.


One concern I'm having now is that we're expecting a pretty significant storm out this way tonight lasting into tomorrow.

For the cities, that might be OK, but in some of the rural areas it could be a while before the roads get plowed. They're usually pretty good about plowing and sanding, but you just never know. Luckily, the storm isn't supposed to last into Tuesday, so we'll just have to see how things go.

Is there going to be an official "Report from Mass" thread? I'm thinking maybe those of us from Mass can keep an eye on our local TV channels and keep everyone updated throughout the day and early evening Tuesday...

15. No, actually, the "hicks" out here are pretty liberal

Some of them are relocated New Yorkers, many more are the "artsy fartsy" Liberal types.

I posted a link yesterday to a site giving some stats on the 2008 Presidential election.

The entire state...even the four Western Mass counties...voted overwhelmingly Democrat. In fact, in the little group of Hilltowns where I live, only one of them actually had more Republican votes.

That being said, though, I haven't noticed any Coakley signage around, although I have to admit I wasn't really looking. It's just that the Brown sign was so prominent nobody could miss it. I wanted to set fire to it...

But all this national attention is going to boost turnout, so I'm actually feeling pretty confident.

21. My weather toolbar says no...

The storm is supposed to start later today and last into tomorrow, with Tuesday being partly sunny and about 38 degrees. So we're safe there.

The only concern is what kind, and how much, precipitation we have. If we get a good amount of snow out this way, it could complicate things a bit unless the road crews are very quick about getting the plows and sanders out tomorrow.

the folks attending will be urged to get out the vote on Tuesday.

this week. I would assume the college kids would break for Coakley - especially if pushed by Obama.

18. Here on the North Shore it's mixed

Our town has hardly any yard signs, but there was a Brown visibility in the town center yesterday with about 15 people. I'm guessing they came from Seabrook, NH, which is right across the border and is as teabaggy as they come.

The city to our south is solidly in Coakley's camp, though, judging by yard signs and activity. It's the same mixed bag all the way down to Boston, so an honest assessment would be that it can go either way.

The Springfield Sunday Republican...with a rather large circulation...has a real good endorsement column on the editorial page today.

. . . and they vote, unfortunately. I always took consolation in the belief that their votes were cancelled out by a stronger Dem turnout, but now I'm not so sure.

24. The polls I've been seeing seem to be heavily weighted toward Republicans assuming low turnout

and Democratic complacency, but the controversy they've raised seems to be energizing the base and stimulating a large turnout.

One observation on the large number of campaign calls I've been receiving for the last three days: every single call from the Brown campaign has been an automated robo-call recorded by Brown or his daughter, while most of the Coakley calls have been a live volunteer and about half of their recorded calls have been an endorsement from a political "celebrity" like Barak Obama or Bill Clinton.

And for what it's worth, my wife was just polled with questions on a long list of position statements.

28. Everybody's guess. Polls depend heavily on the screening they use.

Nobody can answer the question: who will go and vote, and this is the real question here.

Where I am, I dont see the excitement for Brown reported by the media, but I dont see the excitement for Coakley either. More tiredness of being called every fifteen minutes by different groups.
