Phases of disasters relief

Search and Rescue... we are close to ending this stage... this is the immediate finding, taking care off and all that jazz, as well as spinning up operations.

We are about to enter the RECOVERY PHASE.

The ultimate goal of this phase is to return the population to a sense of normalcy.

So here is where things start to get done to repair services.

Reestablishing the cell phone network was part of it. So will be getting food, water going where it is self sustaining and clearing the ruble.

The Marines coming in with construction equipment are part of this effort.

So is quite frankly getting rid of 140,000+ bodies, and yes taking care of the living

People who were injured but survived are now going to possibly die from anything ranging from yes quite brutally honest gangrene, to cholera, dengue and Malaria...

So this is the longest phase and I am betting the first phase will take about six months. And this is the part that the cameras usually do not stay around for. So here is where the sneaky starts. and the corruption. Oh and the corruption is just part of it, no matter where.

But soon the cameras will leave, but many medics will stay... behind... as well as soldiers, engineers and others.

Malaria is endemic, so is dengue...

have been working in my field for over 25 years, i will be hitting up every company whose products we use, will also have the assets of our state association. With any luck there will be no room for your care package!

Day to day I was a street medic...

I was also trained in confined space... what the Fairfax people are doing right now... scary as hell, but I have a screw loose.

HAZMAT

And mountain rescue.

As well as as disaster management.

I tried to go to Med School, my goal was trauma or ER medicine, but then there is this stoopid high science I could not hack at college. I might these days, but not something I'd do in my forties.

10. Ashtma and diabetes would make me a bad one to go to the zone

becoming a casualty is not a good idea.

Last time we had fires here I tried to get out and volunteer, I had to go back in and reach for the inhaler.

but one obligation is to know when you can't... and no NGO nearby (ok the ARC but I have my issues with the ARC), where I could do support work, and gladly would do it.

7. Do you have any idea what's going on with the cellular network?

All major US cell networks have mobile towers that can be set up in the event of an emergency or a large gathering where the normal network would otherwise be overloaded. Do you know if anything like that is making its way to Haiti? I don't know which standard they use there, but I assume it's a GSM variant.
