Everything I need to know in life I learned on DU..
I took the Pew political quiz this morning and made perfect score, which puts me in the 98th percentile of Americans.

http://pewresearch.org/politicalquiz/quiz/index.php

There is one other political blog I read but I get almost all my information on politics from DU, either from GD or LBN, other than a couple or three specialized subject forums those are the only two places I read and post on DU.

Thank you to you DUers who make sure that this is a place where you can learn more than 98% of your fellow Americans about the subject Heinlein called "only slightly less important than your own heartbeat", politics..

We here at DU are an elite, an elite of political knowledge and that fact is largely due to the efforts of DUers who both provide good information and make sure that incorrect information is quickly and thoroughly debunked.

1. I too just ran the table - went 12 for 12.
And I blame DU for the fact that people who know me refuse to talk politics with me.
I'm informed and usually can even provide sourcing.

DU is my first choice when I want to learn about something and be able to discuss it intelligently.

3. Me too -- got 12, making me a 2% elite. That was a cinch though.

2. I missed the "troops" question....
But still a good "grade".

And yes, I credit DU for being "aware".

7. So did I.
I think I subconsciously included the additional troops that Obama wants to send in.

11. Me to.
I knew it should have been close to 70,000 but I wasn't sure they had sent in all the troops from the recent increase.

It was an easy test. I'm surprised so many people scored so low.

16. Doesn't surprise me at all that most people score so low. After all it is based on RANDOM phone ...
calls.

Can you imagine most people at work or in your
general acquaintance knowing most of these answers?

5. Got 12 out of 12.
Scored in the top 2%.

Most people don't know shit, however, and sadly you can't fix stupid.

6. 12 for 12 --- BUT
I work anywhere from 60-80 hrs a week and have a husband with serious chronic health issues. My "downtime", what little I have, is political junkie news. A hobby. Someone else may have less time, less money whatever, and spend more time just trying to get through the day without hurting anyone. If they need a few minutes of mindless craptrap to unwind instead of political junkie news then I can't blame them.

8. The cluelessness of the general public wasn't so much my point in this thread..
But rather the high quality of the information available on DU..

As I pointed out in my OP, I get almost all my political info here and if I read you right you get most of yours here also.

9. 12 of 12, although I guess on the Afghanistan troop level.
That was an annoying poll to take, though. "Would you happen to know," instead of just plain questions. I noticed at the end that it was an online version of a telephone poll - I guess they just copied the phone script straight to the web.

And studying the demographics of the answers is frightening.

And there is no one else in my family that could answer more than maybe five of those questions, if that.

They're not wingnuts or even stupid, they're just not paying attention.

Wow, the ignorance of the majority of the public is even greater than I suspected.

During the Presidential primary I made the bold statement to my family, mostly all Democrats, that Hilary would not be the nominee. I was greeted with outrage for that comment. I give credit to DU for being able to get the direction that the Democratic party was headed. I also advised my brother in law, who was whining about losing 100k of his mutual fund value to buy Ford stock which was down to $1.50 a share at the time. I tried to rationalise to him that we will have a President, namely Barack Obama that will not allow the auto industry to be liquidated and that Ford was the only American auto company that will make great gains in the near term. 52 week high for Ford stock- $12.14 a share. Of course he laughed in my face when I made that suggestion. The subject does not come up at family gatherings during the holidays.

And I bet they *still* won't listen to you or believe what you say.

I get the same treatment from my family.

I got that Afghanistan troop level wrong the last time I took this test, but I learn from my mistakes. :)
