And how? I've made many new 'real life' friends here, sharpened my thinking, learned to write poetry, take better pictures, have some intellectual conversations and so on.

It has changed my life, being a member here.

Amount of relief aid currently on the ground in Port-au-Prince (water, food, blankets, medical supplies, tents, everything) - 180 Tons.

180 x 2000 x 16 (because we are going to need this number) = 5,760,000 ounces of aid on the ground.

5,760,000 / 3,000,000 (people that need aid) = 1.92 OUNCES of food, water, shelter, medical supplies for each person.

For the last 4 days of going without.

and it is well worth the time spent. I am retired and watching TV is frustrating because of commercials and the repetitive nature of the business.

Mostly I lurk (since 2004), and contribute sometimes when I think I have something to add to the discussion. I like to see what (mostly) progressive people have to say about the day's events.

Bottom line is, however, that I'm about 50 lbs overweight, so I should back away from the keyboard a little more often. In that sense, DU is no help at all.
