2. I'm not worried about my fellow lefties near as much
as I'm worried about a resurgence of "Reagan Dems". Polls in MA indicate that something like 20% of dems may vote for brown. If that holds true, do you actually believe those are liberal dems?

3. Coakley ran a horrible campaign. She has baggage.
And the White House ignored it until the very end.

We SHOULD win, we May win, and it would be great if we win. But, as for holding my breath? That will be saved for my next dive into a pool.

I've just seen 4 dems, not even conservative ones, friends and family, post on facebook that they voted for brown, my stomach is churning. Something is bigtime broken and we need to fix it before november.

15. I don't think we can just fix it. wish we could.
I think some pretty big forces enter into the whole thing. Part of it is the pendulum which is pretty reliable, but much of is darker and uglier than that; barely submerged racism mixed with economic insecurity and an almost existential angst. Not good. not good at all.

sorry to hear about your family and friends voting brown. that is upsetting.

39. I think the Golden Opportunity has passed, killed by the politics of the DLC
They delivered precisely the opposite of what Obama campaigned on, and marginalized the Liberal faction within the Party, considering them little more than captive stooges. Conservative politics as usual...but hey, they do have all the $$ and the power, so it's clearly evident who's doing the laughing now.

4. What I find so funny....
...is that the left and progressives are dismissed as not mattering and insignificant when it comes to our elected leaders giving them what they want, yet they are apparently the ones to blame when turnout is low and democrats lose elections.

It can't be both. If they are that important than they should be listened to and have their needs and wants met. Especially since in many cases (the economy, healthcare, jobs, etc.), what they want is popular with a majority of voters and is proven to work.

If they aren't important or significant, then all these wonderfully moderate, centrist dems should have no problem winning withouth them. If winning over these conservative leaning independents is so easy then they don't need the left anyway and so they should bear no blame.

The fact is that there is a reason why the republicans in general don't try to piss off their teabagging right. Because they know they can't win without them.

7. really? so that's who I was blaming in my post upthread?
and there have been plenty of repubs who have pissed off the teabaggers- Lindsay Graham and others are constantly pissing them off.

generalizations are no substitute for analysis of a given situation.

20. Honestly...
I hadn't even read your post, so mine was made completely without reference to it. Not saying you personally are blaming anyone. I'm just saying it can't be both ways. If politicians want to throw their lot in with conservative leaning independents rather than liberal leaning independents then that's their choice. But they better be damn sure that those people will actually work for them and vote for them and donate to them in enough numbers that they can win. And if they don't, it can't be the fault of progressives.

And I'm not so naive to understand full that in some areas, in some states, and for some seats doing this is the only way to get a democrat elected. But it's not the way to run a national democratic party, it's not the way to win in most sections of the country, and it sure as hell is not the way to lead if you want to win the next round of elections.

is galling...I don't think we're asking for everything, but at least something, and if youre not even going to do that AND insult us, then don't expect us to amrch lock-step with you.

we have two branches of 1 political party. Obamas greatest accomplishment will be getting elected as the first African American to the presidency. And that is very saddening to me.

25. first of all, sweetums, I'm a Bernie Sanders style progressive
not even remotely a moderate. didn't support Iraq don't support Afghanistan, didn't support the bailouts, so your premise about what I believe is flat wrong from the get go, honeypie.

Your options? don't know where you live, dumpling, but if you don't want to vote dem on the presidential level, vote for someone you do believe in even if it's a write-in or don't vote at all. better options than voting repuke, my little genius. duh.

I do have someplace else to go and even if it is detrimental in the long run, I'll will show how I feel about the statement that I have nowhere else to go with a great big FU to the DLC not by abstaining but voting for the opposition.

30. The left has nowhere else to go? They better think again.
In my state, we usually have more than 2 choices, and a write-in option.

But, it is amusing that they simultaneously deem us irrelevant and powerful enough to swing elections.

Wailing on your own base, and mocking us in public has consequences.
