25% voter turnout by 11:00AM in my precinct |
|
1600 voters in my precinct. I was voter #264 at 8:00AM. My wife voted at 11:0000AM and was #472.
This is going to be a high turnout race, which is good news for us Democrats.

1. Thanks for the report. |
|
25% at 11 is very impressive for a special election.

6. Because the higher our turnout, the better our chances |
|
Indeed, it's what helped us in '06 and '08.

8. Because the party in power tends to sit out midterm (and special) elections due to apathy |
|
The party out of power is more motivated and they show up in greater numbers, thus low voter turnout indicates apathy in full swing. High turnout on the other hand means that the Dems and Democrat-leaning Independents are likely getting out to vote for Coakley - a good thing.

22. Across the board high voter turnout does not automatically indicate high Democratic turnout |
|
this is just wishful spinthking.

28. Higher turnout typically favors Democrats |
|
And in a state like Massachusetts, the odds of it being helpful to Democrats are more. I think it's wishful thinking to think otherwise.

29. It's Not "Spinthinking" |
|
It's been accepted political wisdom for decades.
Of course no one knows the results yet, but as far as indicators go, turnout is one of the more important ones.

that when everyone is turning out then it is not dominated by a "motivated opposition" vote.
But that is only a guess.

20. And about three times the number of Independants than Dems. |
|
I wouldn't count the chickens yet. Are there any exit polls going on? That would be interesting.
I remain hopeful, but cautiously.

|
I could see all the 'D's down the page as I was getting my ballot. Didn't see a single 'R' on the page.

38. There are more registered Democrats than Republicans |
|
If the Dems are smart they'll blanket the city of Boston - if they can get about 60% turnout for the election it will be tough for the rest of the state to make up the loss

I guess 25% is pretty good for this time of day? Will it need to be over 50% for Democrats to win?
