Look, even if Coakley DOES lose, it's not the end for Senate Democrats

All we have to do is hold on to every Senate Dem who's up for re-election and replace at least one Republican with a Democrat. It can't be that hard to do. Look at the tale of the tape:

Florida - LeMieux is stepping down. There's no less than five Democrats gunning for his seat.
Texas - Hutchison will step down sooner or later. The later, the better - no Republican contender can muster enough momentum against John Sharp at this point.
Kansas - Brownback's running for Governor. Seat's up for grabs if any Dem wants it bad enough.
Missouri - Bond is retiring. McCaskill needs a fellow Dem to give her some spine.
Ohio - Same thing with Voinovich. Senator Jennifer Brunner, anyone?

I could go on, but there's plenty of opportunity in 2010 for Dems to solidify their gains in the Senate.

But they have to WANT it.

Yes... there are five Republican seats that are in play (though those aren't the five... it's KY,MO,,NH,OH, and LA - no idea how you put TX and Kansas on there)... but there are 9-10 Democratic seats... and our candidate is currently trailing in several of them.

6. Update -

Just saw one poll with Gillebrand up by three and another with her down by double digits.

Not counting today's race, she's the 9th or 10th most vulnerable Democratic senator.

That hints that there's actually a change (a small one, but a chance) that we could lose the entire senate majority this Fall. Absent a massive sea change, we aren't going to regain 60 if we lose it here.

And the playing field just gets harder in 2012 (where far more Democratic seats are up than Republican).

First of all Republicans will filibuster every piece of Obama/Democratic legislaztion...Obama will not be able to get any other bill passed...unless of course it is Republican sponsored legislation...YOu can wave good by to Clean Energy, Global Warming etc. etc. etc. I bet the first bill they bring up will be some kind of TAX cuts. We are in some deep Doo Doo here and it all hinges on MA.

7. You're nuts if you think we can win those states

in the current political climate. "Wanting it bad enough" is not sufficient. One does not insert oneself into public office by sheer force of will.

For starters, you really should take a look at what's happening in Texas. Look past the media hype over the GOP gubernatorial primary and you'll see some very encouraging signs.
