Nevermore? No mystery visitor on Poe birthday
For first time in 60 years, no one leaves roses and cognac at writer’s grave

On Jan. 19, 2008, the grave of Edgar Allen Poe was adorned with a bottle of cognac and roses left by a visitor, just as it had been for 60 years. But this year, the “Poe Toaster” never showed.

BALTIMORE - Is this tradition "nevermore"?

A mysterious visitor who each year leaves roses and cognac at the grave of Edgar Allan Poe on the writer's birthday failed to show early Tuesday, breaking with a ritual that began more than 60 years ago.

"I'm confused, befuddled," said Jeff Jerome, curator of the Poe House and Museum. "I don't know what's going on."

2. Didn't someone reveal the secret person's identity a few years ago and since
then more and more people have showed up to watch for the person?

I thought I read somethign about that and that it was somewhat ruined for the person as a special thing or something? Hmmmm, maybe I'm wrong but I thought I had heard something like that.

3. After 60 years the 'visitor' has likely died.
And unless the tradition has been passed to someone else, it's over.
