Heard Joe Sestak-Dem challenger to Specter for PA Senator - on an

informal radio show this morning. He spent the time talking about how he wanted to try to find agreement/common ground with the GOP, and how his constituent base is 55% Republican.
I doubt he would be significantly more "progressive" than Specter, but he did point out that Specter voted to privatize Medicare and Social Security, and he seemed appalled by this. His candidacy is opposed by Obama's administration as well as by the State Democratic machine (Ed Rendell), and I tended to support him for that reason alone.
Not much hope for change here in PA after all, but he may be the best we will get.

3. That theme - "the best that we can do" is becoming the "battle cry" of the Democratic

wing of the party.

After a lifetime of (naively) thinking that we really could bring about positive change, the reality of the deck stacked against progress has finally broken through those youth-inspired dreams.

Sure, we "stopped" the war - but really only on a time schedule approved by those in power.

Civil rights have improved, but not in the actual operational definition of how things really work in this country.

The economic structure is firmly in place and does not tolerate threats to its existence and profitability.

So, maybe all we can really hope to accomplish is minor "tweaks" around the periphery that do not threaten the status quo. We certainly will never get there under the rule of the corporate political parties now in charge.

4. I don't think Specter has the stamina to campaign all over PA. He is worn out and

Toomey is younger and more agressive. Look for Toomey to tap into the teabagger sentiment and create the same sort of situation as MA. A lot of Democrats don't trust Specter, looking at his switch only because he couldn't beat Toomey in a republican primary. If Specter pulled out a win against Toomey, he could switch back with his buddies McConnell, Hatch, Grassley and that gang and laugh up his sleeve at us.

Progressives are growing tired of voting for the DINO's as well.

Show me a Progressive Democrat to vote for and support and I'll do just that.
