I just got a very offensive e-mail.
A woman I know in Nevada knows these e-mails piss me off, but she sends them to me anyway.

Here's the e-mail:

AMEN!!!!!!! I am in the majority!

While we're at it, let's put "Under God" back into the Pledge of Allegiance"!
If the atheists, agnostics and Muslims don't like it, they should SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP - They are in the noisy and annoying MINORITY!!!

In God we trust - All others pay cash!

Subject: FW: Agree or Delete - I AGREE

I Agree

Just like Dalton McGuinty wanting to keep the 'Lord's Prayer' out of The Ontario Legislature, for the same reasons. What a gutless wonder he has turned out to be.

This is by a daughter of a murdered couple in TORONTO who had a Bible and Bookstore on Bloor Street.

When I had to testify at the murder trial of my parents a week ago, I was asked to raise my right hand.

The bailiff started out, 'Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the truth ? I stood there and waited but she said nothing more.

She said, 'Do you?' I was so stunned I blurted out, 'What happened to 'so help me God?' She came back with 'Do you?'

I replied yes, but I was perplexed. Then the judge said, 'You can say that if you want to.' I stopped, raised my right hand and finished with 'so help me God!'

I told my son and daughter that when it came time for them to testify, They should do the same. It's no wonder we have so many problems in this country.

If I'd had my wits about me, I'd have told them that taking God out of the courtroom is only going to result in more Criminals and murderers like him being in there.

I don't know what can be done about it, but it's time we stepped up and did something.

CBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls and the percentage was the same as this: 86% to keep the words; 14% against.

That is a pretty commanding public response. I was asked to Send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn. It said that 85% of CANADIANS believe in God.

Why don't we just tell the 14% to sit down and SHUT UP! If you agree, pass it on. If not, you know where that friendly little ol' delete button is..

Now, decide whether to delete or pass it on

(End of e-mail)

I sent this back, after hitting the "Reply All" button, so all those on her list get it.

Which "God?"
You saying it has to be *YOUR* God?
The Taliban says the same thing.

"Under God" wasn't in the Pledge until 1954.
And the Pledge was originally written by a Socialist. Oh yes.

But what the heck, "THEY aren't my religion, so THEY don't count!"
"Send 'em back where dey came from!"

Religious bigotry like this led to the Holocaust, to the Holocaust museum shooting, to 9-11, to Dr Tiller's murder, to Eric Rudolph's "Army of God" bombing spree, etc.

(End of reply)

Anything I should have added?

6. Conservative BS
I either ignore it, or hit reply to all and let people know how I feel about their bogus 3RD Grade level "math story problems".

Every last one of these are the equivalent of the "tortoise and the hare" story, and about on the same intellectual level.

I swear, there is a fortune just waiting to be made to the person who would turn these "right-wing" screeds into 2nd Grade Level "pop-up" books. Hell, you could have the woman's right hand "pop-up" and start doing the pope wave when you open the hard cardboard book.

I use the reply all method when I get this crap and you would be surprised by the number of positive responses I get from the others on the list. (some negative as well, but that's the breaks).

15. I get the same kind of emails from a relative
First, your response was reasonable, which makes it irrelevant to the kind of persons who distribute this nonsense. You're wasting your time trying to reason with those who find their version of truth in mythology, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.

I occasionally throw in something like this: "You and I will never agree about this issue. You dwell on an idealized past that never existed; I prefer to seek a future where xenophobia, ignorance, avarice, inequity and superstition no longer exist. Since yesterday is behind us, please consider joining me in my pursuit of a better tomorrow."

I do that too and occasionally get a reply from some stranger pissed off that I dared to dispute the BS in the email. :hi:

Maybe not you, but most bad behavior is committed by Christians. There's so many of them.

21. Liars always say, "so help me god."
People take that oath and then lie their asses off.

So "under god" pisses off (only) 14%? That's 45 million people! Let's go back to the pre '54 pledge when nobody was pissed off. (Except me. I disdain all pledges and oaths because they are creepy and feudalistic and contribute nothing)

24. I would add "Telling other people to 'sit down and SHUT UP!' is not an American value,
or I'm sure we wouldn't have a First Amendment that guarantees Americans freedom of speech. And note, our Founding Fathers thought it was so important they made it first!"

25. Hey, I'm for traditional values: take 'under God' back out of the Pledge.
As well as 'the flag of the United States of America," which was substituted for "my flag."

Return the Pledge to the way it was written.

28. This is easy to stop. Just tell her that for every one of these e-mails she sends you,
you're going to donate $10 in her name to Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. And follow through on it. Once she gets a note or two from AU thanking her for her donation, you'll never get any of those e-mails again. (Of course, you can substitute the ACLU, or any other like organization if you prefer.)

29. Why do you bother?
Talking sense and intelligence to the wingnuts is as futile as trying to teach dialectic materialism to cattle. When I get emails like these I just take the email address and sign them up to several online porn sites.

It gives one a much better feeling of accomplishment.
