Oh Man, I Don't Ever Want To Vote For Harold Ford's Smarmy Ass.

As a NY'er, I hope his attempt to run in the primary is a failure and helps Gillibrand toughen up for future elections.

(Harold) Ford leaving Wall St. job to focus on Senate bid

(AP) - Harold Ford Jr. has taken a leave of absence from his Wall Street job so he can have more free time to travel around New York state and decide whether to run for U.S. Senate.

A spokesman said that Mr. Ford took a 30-day leave from his job as vice chairman of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Davidson Goldin said Tuesday Ford wants to focus on "listening to New Yorkers and discussing his goals as an independent Democrat" while he decides whether to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the Democratic primary.

The former Tennessee congressman has been meeting with elected officials and other political operatives recently. He plans to travel to Long Island this week and upstate next week.

3. As a New Yorker, you have something to say about that, fortunately.
And I hope you do say something - early and often. And not just on DU.

4. I'm a New Yorker, too, and I feel the same way...
But I honestly don't think he'd survive a primary here, though I hope that they don't have to waste the money on one. Kirsten Gillibrand's pretty popular (and my former congresswoman :-) ) and Ford couldn't even win an election in his home state. :hi:

In other words, it hopefully won't get that ugly during primary.

6. He already had name recognition in his home state and he lost, anyway...
And a primary is a waste of money that would be better saved for the general. I'm hoping that he's talked out of it... :-(

8. The guy presents very very
well and is a good campaigner and debater. His rhetorical skills are better than Obama's. What got him in trouble with his Senate run in TN was his womanizing while in DC. Just couldn't keep it in his pants. He's a very talented politician not to be underestimated. NY has a record of electing opportunist out-of-staters to Senate seats so this is a natural for him.

11. "Independent Democrat"?... that sounds familiar....Lieberman re-dux?
As a NY'er, I cannot stand the thought of putting yet another "ConservaDem" into office, and to represent New York, of all places.

12. Fortunately, this doesn't mean much. It'a a ritual for any NY politician...
who wants statewide office to run around and collect favors, money, and whatever. He's seeing how much support he'll get around the state before declaring.

Ed Koch, Rudy, and others went through these motions, and after being beat up everywhere from Long Island to Buffalo, bowed out with their tails between their legs.

Rudy and Koch bailed when they found out upstate doesn't like New York City very much. Or them. With any luck, Ford will find that the major players-- the Governor, Schumer, Cuomo and the legislative leaders-- in addition to Democratic leaders in Buffalo and Watertown, have no use for him. They all have their own fights next year, and Ford doesn't do squat for any of them.

(The terminally cynical might think that residual racism in some areas has its uses.)
