Which they never really had.
I look at this loss in MA a little differently than most. I think it is a good thing. The Democrats will finally abandon the illusion of a 60-vote majority and the Republicans can no longer hide and be the Party of "No". There are major problems facing this country and the Democrats cannot solve them by themselves, it is obvious to see. But the Republicans can no longer stand on the sideline and point fingers. They are now forced to work together. Or what happened today will come back and bite them big time. There are no more excuses for either Party. The people want jobs and solutions, not back-biting partisanship.

Just what I was thinking after I heard the news. I voted for Coakley, but not happily.
It might be for the best.

Lieberman was never on our team. With Dems like Baucus, who needs Republicans?
I continue to believe that people are grossly uniformed about who they are voting for and what the consequences will be.

4. Filibusters are bad. It gives accountability with no power. |

At least if a simple majority worked you could hold someone responsible

5. You're misreading the Republicans |
|
They WILL still stand on the sideline and point fingers.
They were doing it up until the time Arlen switched and Al was seated when we didn't have 60 votes then.
They will NOT feel forced to work together. The Republicans will feel emboldened, and will shout "NO!" even louder.

start behaving like the Republicans do. They never did have 60 but managed to ram through all kinds of shit.
So deal with the had you've been dealt, Democratic controlled Senate.
Do something with your fucking majority. You do still have a majority.

8. What nonsense. The congressional elections are coming. |
|
No need for the Republicans to do anything but laugh at us. I would, if I didn't care that it meant Americans are dying.

9. Indeed, we never had the sense of what it meant to have 60 votes!. |
|
...nor what it meant to have control of the WH, and both houses. Maybe tomorrow, we will have sense of it.

The Blue Dogs are Republicans on those matters.

11. Not that sanguine on the Republicans |
|
they are the party of no. They are salivating right now about how now they can call a filibuster for everything.
They have proven completely intransigent. They will not budge at all.
