My guess is that ten times out of ten, compare a Kennedy to any of the corporate "Democrats" we have in Congress and there won't be any debate as to who comes out looking like the "real democrat."

Sure, Teddy's name helped him get started in politics. But people didn't keep supporting for him for 47 years just because he was part of a political dynasty. He was the real deal.

We can all be rightfully skeptical of dynastic politics while also acknowledging that dynasties and great leaders aren't always mutually exclusive.

You missed my point. My point was not to dismiss the future of Kennedys in politics out of hand, just because they're a dynasty. Because based on their track record, they've been some of the best we've ever produced.

I have a theory that the BFEE has soured some Democrats on the Kennedys, even if it's just subconsciously. I feel like people equate the Kennedys with the same type of sickening cronyism and nepotism we get from the Bushes, all the while neglecting the fact that despite their wealth and privilege, the Kennedys have always fought for the people. Like I said, we can always maintain a healthy skepticism of dynasties (much in the same way we can and should always question leaders, no matter who they are), but still acknowledge that occasionally a dynasty will produce a good egg like Teddy and his brothers.

There is precedent for a widow to "step in", and even for a son to run for "Dad's seat", but after losing the seat to a republican NOW, can you imagine the pressure 2 years from now? Republicans will be grooming CapeCodKen and they will spend whatever it takes to secure a 6 yr gig for him.. A Kennedy young'un who came close, but still lost, would be worse than bad..... and a lot of those young kennedys have some skeletons in their closets.. They may just want to do their charitable work, and live their lives. The ONE Kennedy who could have carried on, died in that plane crash with his wife & sister-in-law.. he had the charisma to win, if he had chosen to run.

The Kennedy era is over.. They had a half-century run. It's time for a new person to step up.
