Stupak and Nelson weren't about women asking for special rights: it was about Congress TAKING AWAY
rights that women already had and THAT WERE COVERED under private insurance.

"....In effect, the Stupak amendment, if enacted, would be a ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion for millions of women, many of whom pay for their insurance themselves with their own money. This marks an unprecedented departure from existing federal law affecting individuals who pay for their own health insurance.

Because the majority of private health insurance plans already offer abortion coverage, the House bill will actually cause women to lose insurance coverage that they currently have.

The Senate bill was even worse.

And this isn't the only time government has interfered with private insurers (or private companies) for that matter:

In Virginia, for example, insurers began, on their own, to offer domestic partner benefits for gays and lesbians. It was good business. Then Virginia's government stepped in and banned insurance for domestic partners.

Virginia Bans Same-Sex Partner Rights

And for those who think that this only happens to women and gays, remember that in the South, it was the municipal (goverment) buses that made blacks ride in the back. The private bus companies did not have that policy unless and until it was enforced by the state governments.

1. Rights for women? Are you high? Now get back in the kitchen
Or under the bus. But please don't bother us about having "rights," silly thing.

2. Crappy, ain't it.
But since Rahm doesn't give a rat's ass for women's rights, why should anyone else, right?

3. Well said. And notice how many are attempting to attach blame for the mass loss to anyone other than
the party apparatachniks? Women ar a favorite target, as though they are the authors of this debacle as well as the other ridiculousness. Even Coakley is not entirely to blame.( other than being a woman of course.) :sarcasm: Some have actually argued that caused her to lose  :puke:) They allowed her to display her sense of entitlement without so much as a demur from the party. And she was the designated candidate so no primary GOTV was necessary!

4. They LOVE to blame women as they are taking away women's rights bit by bit.
It's to the point where you can't tell the DLC from the RNC when it comes to women's issues.

You know ,demanding all this stuff like equal access to medical care and rights and stuff! We just don't know our place. We must give up our rights for the current politics. They can always fix things later!:sarcasm:

17. Shameful, but not surprising...
how in the world Stupid-pak gets $0.10 of DNC cash is beyond me. Why should the GOP even bother running against him when he's carrying their water in the fight to keep women down?
