81. did he have much choice, politically?
Rahm is high functioning and practical, he's just a non-visionary who takes credit for the work of others. Like his brother. His presence in the White House does mollify a certain paranoid power bloc in Washington, but it's not in America's interest to keep them happy all the time since their fear of the Holocaust being repeated drove them quietly insane a long time ago -- vis the neo-cons, vis Lieberman. Vis Kissinger, repeater of Holocausts in his blinkered zeal to prevent them. Oh what a world it would be were Chomsky to have had Kissinger's power instead.

60. Do they care?
What is most important to our politicians? Is it how well the USA does, or how fucking well their little special interest lobbies do? When Americans say we want all lobbies shut down and especially those that operate and control our elected officials is when this just might end. We are seeing movement in that direction. But we need public financing of elections to speed it up. Never ever shut down your aggressive criticism of the status quo thinking that some may disapprove.

how much he "earned" as an investment banker??? Sad to say it but you don't get into the inner sanctums of power without serious $$$, regardless of how you "earned" (read:stole) it.

And that "moderate" outreach/expansion in recruiting new house members in 2006/2008? How's that working out for us???

Yeah, R.E. needs to pack his crap and get back to the Windy City... NOW.

57. Couldn't agree more
Rahm Emanuel has always had one foot catering to Wall Street and the other catering to others with interests outside the USA. That is not good news for either Obama or for those of us who are American citizens looking for major and honest change. Rahm was Obamas's first big mistake. The next was the appointment of a tax cheat and Federal Reserve lackey - Geithner.

I knew this admin was not going to be one I would like the minute Obama began picking his cabinet and advisers. Rahm, Geithner, Summers etc. And no names like Bill Bradley, Krugman, Stiglitz, Galbraith, Brooksley Born, Elizabeth Warren or Howard Dean. Shame shame shame.

That said replace Rahm with Howard Dean. Replace Geithner and Summers with Max Keiser and Dylan Rattigan, and Sibelius with Nader. Then we'd really see the big issues (War, Bankers and Health Care) fixed for real.

I'll check in with you in 6 months. I fully expect Rahm to still be there.

I applaud you conviction, and if you want to hold some sort of protest, I'll be there, but...

I really don't think Obama is going to have to unconsciously flex his pinky finger more then twice to ignore it, no fight involved.
