My health care idea
Virtually every state has a Blue Cross/Blue Shield outfit and/or some other nominally not-for-profit health insurer. So why don't we just co-opt them?

We could:

1) Offer each of them huge federal subsidies to insure the uninsured, the poor, people with preexisting conditions and anybody else we think needs to be served.

2) Put so many strings on that money that each institution that takes the money becomes essentially a public option.

Done.

4. The Blues are not non-profit. They de-mutualized
about 10 years ago. They are all about the Benjamins. That is part of the root cause of the mess we are in.

5. Most are still nonprofit
Those that are should be given a choice: Play ball or lose your tax-exempt status.
