Thank you Naomi Klein!
My ultra-conservative father picked up Shock Doctrine three days ago.
He has not been able to put it down since he opened it 72 hours ago.

He's blown away.

+1

3. That is one of two books that I am afraid to read. I am often close to
depression and do not wish to fall off the cliff. The other is John Kerry's "The New War".

4. I read Shock Doctrine and No Logo
and while they were both great books, much of what she wrote, especially in Shock Doctrine was not germane to her hypothesis. She did do a good job of nailing down how and why the security industry has blossomed at the expense of the govt. and on the taxpayer dime. There is also a counterpoint to the maladies that she almost solely attributed to the Milton Friedman "Chicago School" of economics that is and has recently fallen out of vogue for even the true believers. Which is to say that several free market policies have served to pull third world nations into the second world vis a vis small-medium manufacturing bases, which is much more than USAID and many NGO's can say. You can use statistics to support either argument as it pertains to the Chilean economy. I say this without in any way endorsing our installation of Pinochet over the democratically elected Allende.
