I'm sorry to say that it didn't take long for the rest of you to join the GLBT community, pro-choice women, Unions, teachers, anti-war activists, civil liberties proponents, progressives and so many others under the bus. But now that we're all here together, maybe we should take the opportunity to discuss what to do next.
Do we stay down here and just accept that we've been fooled by a smooth tongued con-artist who promised Hope & Change but delivered cynicism and the status quo?
Or do we stand up against the lies and betrayals to demand our party back?
I believe we have wasted precious time excusing, ignoring and apologizing for this president. We have spent far too long trying to find convenient scapegoats and talking about ponies and magic wands. A message was sent, loud and clear, to the white house last night but the letter was sent back unopened. The person we elected to lead us out of the desolation left by bush* has instead entrenched us in the middle of that very wasteland.
So where do we go from here? Do we turn our backs on the Democrats in November? Do we vote for them but refuse to do the legwork and donate? Do we begin the process of primarying him in 2012? Or do we just go on as if nothing is wrong like some dysfunctional family?
The vast majority of us are hurting and feeling betrayed tonight, not because a republican won Ted Kennedy's seat, but because his 'friend' in the white house has betrayed everything Kennedy stood for. Our president has turned his back on us and said, "where else are you going to go?"
Well, we all found ourselves under the same bus and I think its time we asked ourselves the same question. Where else are we going to go?
Where do we go from here?
