Why didn't Barney Frank run for the seat in the first place?
I don't claim to have a clue as to how the intricacies are worked out, but isn't Senator generally more preferable?

And the seat was open, and Massachusetts had a political force of his own ready and waiting.

So why didn't Barney Frank run for the Kennedy seat?

I'm just wondering if I missed something here...

2. Sometimes people feel they are, and can be....
more effective in the seats they already have.

Lots of people had the same questions about why Teddy didn't run for President. Aside from his brother having been assassinated, I think he also felt that he could better serve the people as Senator.

I actually did the same thing in one of my jobs one time...turned down a promotion because I felt I couldn't be as effective (or enjoy it as much) as the job I already did. :)

3. He would have gone from being one of the most powerful reps
to the least powerful Senator and that is assuming he won. No openly gay person has won a US Senate seat or a governorship.
