Yes, he actually said that, and yes, it was stupid. It's that "won't somebody think of the children" crap that irks us so much.

Also, criticize the "reeks of sulfur" thing as being over-the-top and bad taste. You'll get no flak from me for doing so.

What you DON'T have is the "US caused earthquakes" thing. It was manufactured.

The moral of the story is: when there's an outrageous piece of alleged news that titillates your opinions, BE SUSPICIOUS. As suspicious as if it was an "against" news. Maybe even moreso, because enthusiastically brandishing such news wil make you look like an ass later. Remember the Backwards B?

he's a lone kook saying something ridiculous as they amplify his statements, take them out of context or outright fabricate them.

Witness the many stories about him complaining about the US military build up in Latin America when he is only one of MOST leaders in the region with the same objection.

8. Funny thing is, that repeated offense makes rational people doubt stories that may even be true.

So I read, "Chavez said US aid to Haiti is an excuse to occupy the country." Gee, that's bad.

But given past history, I have no choice but to doubt everything.
